Many Gen4 Eco drivers have said they get the same strong power if they mash the pedal quickly.
(I have never stomped on the pedal, or even come close to full-throttle. I'm a "mature" and refined Gentleman. :ROFLMAO:)

i guess if 'mashing the pedal quickly' is someone's basic driving mode, spinning tyres are inevitable.

    I would concur.

I'm hoping for the next rain to come soon. I'm very curious to see how that traction control works, and if that is the reason for the loud bang I heard.

What about that rear shock loose bolt issue? IIRC that's been mentioned?

Also, on 4th gen it's reported the 3 driving "modes" are shifted in the aggressive direction by one mode; if so I'd vote for ECO, considering 3rd gen Normal feels very linear and controlled.

Yeah, Eco is fine. Normal is fine. I'll say one thing, my brakes sure seem to work a lot better when I'm in the Eco mode. I have no idea why, but I like it. They were getting real "mushy" when I was driving around in PWR all the time.

Just another Prius oddity. I need to start a new thread. Everybody list all the weird things about their Prius.

If you floor the pedal there is no difference between "PWR" mode and "ECO" mode. The different modes just remap the throttle, but it's the same closed or open. "ECO" mode does do things to the A/C and heating system, but those won't affect you when you floor it.

I would put the "good" tyres on the front if you are having a consistent problem, or just get new tyres. Do be aware, if those tyres are "bad" (too slippery because they are old) don't put them on the rear. The car could swap ends on you under hard braking in the rain.

2016's are able to switch of TC, by design. On third gen that's not the case, short of switching the car to Maintenance Mode, with a special pedal depress sequence. Per the name: it's intended for maintenance only, mainly to keep the engine running with the car stationary, not for normal driving.

My TC on/off switch is down to the left, next to the gas door button. Press & hold for a couple seconds, and then the "off warning" icon will appear in the display. I need to ask the dealer about the noise I heard. (And see what kind of convoluted answer they give me).

When the car was new on factory Bridgestone Ecopias, you can spin the tires on dry pavement. I'm running Nokian WRG3 right now and spun the tires in ECO mode on wet pavement making a left turn yesterday. You just have to be a bit careful with the instant torque on the Prius (and any EV for that matter).

The best grip I've had so far was when I ran Nokian R winter tires on fresh powder. It gripped like it was dry pavement.

    Well that explains it!
Front tires are brand new oem's.

How are theses going to fair in rain, on snow, and on ice?

    Especially on pretty steep hills?

I've read horror stories. Yet my mechanic says not to worry.

Dry = good. They were reasonably quiet and after every winter, they feel so much softer than the winter tires lol

Rain = Adequate. Didn't test it extensively but they were fine in thunderstorms.

Ice = Poor to fair. Had the unfortunate opportunity to test it on ice. Luckily everyone else was doing 25 mph.

My Nokian WRG3s will allow wheelspin on wet pavement as well, but only at high throttle conditions. I find they actually work pretty well on ice, but only compared to other options. Never tried a true "ice tyre" though. I find they are very nice in rain and won't hydroplane.
You want scary, try driving an FJ Cruiser on ice! Halloween scary! Tall and heavy. Takes off fast in 4WD but just try stopping that 5000 lb beast! ;)

    So TP / anyone,

    Finances being an issue,
could i put two tires that are good in snow and ice on just for the winter?

    If that's ok, then

    OPTION 1
If so, would they go in the front, for traction?
This would be for going at slower speeds, during a true snow or ice storm.
Unfortunately, that would leave the much less, but ok Goodyear LS2's on the back.
Then once snow is done for the year, put the OEM Integrity's back on the front from March through November.

    OPTION 2
Put the two 'good on snow' tires on the back
Great for curves, etc, and safety. Obviously that's the classic best place to put best tires
HOWEVER am a little worried whether could get up & down my pretty steep driveway and street on snow days
so have an idea to put best on front when driving slowly in the snow.

Would use Michelin Defenders (or, anything else that's good or great on ice)

Goals are to be safe, get up and down serious hills, if slowly, not break the bank.

I've found aggressive tread snow tires will lose traction on bare/dry roads sooner than all seasons. I've noticed this when waiting to make a left turn (North America), then punching the gas to get going fast.

I think due to the aggressive tread having overall less surface in contact with the road. Best in that condition would actually be a racing slick.

Tideland, your car doesn't have automatic Traction Control to stop the spinning wheels?

Taking a look through the 2016 Owners Manual pdf, not much positive explanation on TRAC, mainly how to turn it off. It'd be interesting to have an overview on how it works, the benefits. Maybe not that much to say? You'd think they could play it up more, though.

From the (Canadian) brochure, all levels have it. The US brochure is similar:
