    Could here, could there, the text is a suspition/opinion with no match to a given strategy.
    By the way, CX3 is much smaller than HRV ou C-HR.

    Since part of the authors supposition is that Toyota will move the Prius line to pure EV and it will sell partly because it will give HOV access, who besides CA gives HOV access to EVs?

    toyota has to think about capturing more than their share of the 3% alt fuel market. in fact, they need to find a way to move mainstream drivers to hybrids and ev's. maybe converting the whole line up and giving people no choice is the way to go, but they won't do it until it's profitable.

    Calm my friends. Even counting diesels, efficient cars remain a tiny minority of all cars sold. Although the gap narrows, Otto engines still have a power-to-weight advantage.

    I am keeping our BMW i3-REx until the wheels fall off. But I am not expecting someone to come knocking on my door with an offer to buy it.

    I've got mine and don't have expectations of others.

    The article was pretty contradictory. It warned that the green's are turning away from hybrids, but encourages Toyota to expand their hybrid fleet. Hybrids like the Prime are the near future for high mpg cars. EV's need better battery technology, every gas station needs a charging station and charging times need to be 10 minutes or less for a full charge. That is what the public has now and what they expect to have forever. This assumes that the tax credits will continue. I remember the 80's very well.

    EPA size segments for cars have a 10 cubic foot range. It is how the Prius can be a midsize like the Camry here. In regards to station wagons and SUVs, the EPA only has small and large categories.

    So while the CX3 is smaller, somebody looking to buy a small crossover here will also look at it, along with the C-HR, H-RV, Renegade, etc., if they think of Mazda at all.

    The mainstream is into small crossovers now, and the Rav4 hybrid is selling better than any non-Prius hybrid. The C-HR hybrid should do better than the Prius c.

    saw a porch cayenne ev plugged in at whole foods. 80+ grande, just seemed out of place.

    Or a $100+ grande Tesla? They have to eat too and though I'm not a great fan of Whole Foods, they do have some unique treats not found at 7-11.

    What if you could fuel in your garage for your daily drives, and only fill up on long trips? Would that be more convenient? What if you just stopped at gas stations to get a coke or a snack or go to bathroom? What if your car had better acceleration and the was smoother, quieter, and more efficient? That sounds more convenient to me than today's tech.

    No need for every gas station to have a charger, or any gas station to have a charger. Here the libraries and parks have chargers.

    The battery tech needs to get better - that is smaller and less expensive, but guess what, that is happening. If we increased fuel taxes there probably would be no need for subsidies for plug-ins in 5 years. Maybe let fuel taxes help relieve some of those payroll taxes as for sure they won't be paying any of the money we spend on the military in the Mideast to protect the oil for our vehicles.
