does anybody have a pic of a Prime with the side molding installed?

I considered ordering mine with side molding but changed my mind because I was not sure how it would look and thought it might delay the process of getting mine delivered sooner than later.

Would side molding affect air flow and mileage?

 

Yes. I did a bit of math and I'd estimate it would reduce MPG by about 0.002MPG.

 

Toyota needs to have some full size pictures of the options. The close-up shots are not very helpful.

 

Well, that is just unacceptable.

 

I checked the math. There's a rounding error. The correct number is 0.001843 mpg. That's a loss of 1 mile over 542.5936 gallons. At 54 mpg, that will take 29,300.0544 miles to lose that 1 mile. Although, it will be a little longer than that depending on your EV miles. Yes, completely unacceptable.

I'll skip the side mouldings too. I'll just park at the back of the lot and walk a little farther if I worry about a door ding.

 

Side moulding CD Idea:
One could just duct tape over some corners of those odd looking lower front grille elements to get the drag coefficient difference back from the side moulding install. Just saying. And if you'd match the color of the duct tape to the body color, no one might notice.

 

I was actually thinking about a plastic cover over the fog light recess area to regain that cd.

 

And, I thought parasite drag was just bugs squashed
on the windshield..?

 

Loss of resale value due to car park marks might possibly counterbalance the vast cost of the mpg reduction??
