maybe the charging stations should notify you when you're toast?

(6 stories tall, holding 1,000's of cars) Disney employees' chargers cost $1 minimum, at 28ยข/kWh (roughly, a 1hr charge) . Our L2's are ground level, up close - while other cars must drive up & up, round & round. Set your plugin's timer for just 1hr - & you get 3.5kWh's, AND premium parking - presuming you get there early like me (4:30am). I claim i'm just too busy to play parking valet - moving my car, to a crappy spot. BUT - Watch how fast i move it, if the L2 fee were to accrue - even AFTER my car's charger timer shuts off. I don't even NEED an hour of L2 .... i just hook up for the cozy parking. I used to be courteous with charging spaces, move the car - but it's the wild west out there - every inconsiderate phev person for their self - hogging L2's they don't even need, to the detriment of EV's... so BAM ... payback ... (ok i do move sometimes ...)

Compare to 5 minutes at a gas pump once every few weeks. I stop at the gas station to buy a lottery ticket maybe 5 times more often than to buy gas (yeah, I know I ought to just get a subscription. But there would be no fun in that. Besides, she is kinda cute.).

This talk of fighting for a charger space, orienting your life around charger locations and worrying about 30 miles worth of charge just convinces me ...

The Whole Foods around here don't have charging stations, so I keyed the building.

that's the problem w/ Tesla. No key - just a little stinking fob that looks like a miniature tesla. How you supposed to key anything with that .... especially those who you deem deserving?!

If that were my experience I'd be driving a Prius still.
Luckily, my experience is that of waking up every morning with a full tank, never being late because I had to stop for gas, and never having to wait for, or battle for a charger when on a trip (y)

Just showing the the experiences of people jockeying for charge spots is not the only EV experience ;)

Lack of charging stations is why I bought a Chevy Volt. Worst case, or if I decide to do a long distance trip, I just have to burn some gas, not get stranded or need a 2nd car.

But for my 38 mile work commute, I can do it entirely on electric except in winter when I burn about a quarter to a third of a gallon of gas. If I had a 2016/17 Volt, I could probably make the winter trip on electric as well.

Plug-in hybrids are an excellent interim car for folks looking to get a taste of EV driving without the range anxiety, until more charging infrastructure is put in place so you don't have to worry about finding a working charging station.

PHEVs, or range extended BEVs, will always be around, because a plug only BEV won't work for everyone, nor every duty that requires a vehicle.

Hybrids *do* have convenience and scalability advantages over plug-ins while still being extremely efficient... what's so wrong about Lexus highlighting the convenience advantages?

If they were going after the 97% of gasser owners, no problem. But eating your own who are in many cases 1% or less of the market is a waste of resources and pisses us off. It means they are too stupid or cowardly to fight in the 'big market.'

Someone showing that incompetence in salesmanship, are their products equally lame?

hybrids don't scale big and powerful. Look at the LSh, GSh, G< Truck hybrids, etc.
These are marginally selling cars because they add a great deal of cost while not really making them drive that much better.

The outlander phev seems to be doing fairly well. The model X demonstrates batteries scale.

Hybrids work well for 200 hp and bellow and around 7 second acceleration to 60 (camry hybrid). If you want to go faster or more powerful, toyota, gm, and ford have run into execution problems.

There's that old adage too, "Power, cost, fuel efficiency. Pick two" that they have to deal with.

I think bias tends to vary with your situation, justifiably. Someone doing short trips, and a lot of them, is gonna benefit from a plug-in Prius.

Our mileage is so super low now, maybe 8,000 km's yearly. Even a Hummer would make sense, lol. But I'm one of those nutters that wipes out and recycles the chip bags, and so on. I like the thought of making less of a dent, So regular Prius is a good fit.
