Hyundai just made an interesting announcement. I hope this becomes reality:

Hyundai Announces Major Plug-In Push: 4 PHEVs Plus 4 BEVs By 2020

    Here is my short list:
    • Are there attachment points for a trailer receiver or tow bar?
      • Is or does the car have a trailer capability (I know the UK has rules about such things)?
    • What is the maximum 12V circuit load and load point?
    • Pictures of the 12V DC-to-DC inverter output?
    • Record video on camera (pocket cam) during test drive?
    • What are the tires and tire pressures?
    • Noise levels at different speeds?

I will do my best Bob. Let's see about the video. I tried to record my Tesla test drive, and they said no, but photos were allowed.

    Two key diferences:
    - 1 l/100 km diference (24% more fuel consumption for IONIQ)
    - higher CO and particle emissions - direct injection engine

When will we have EPA measures for IONIQ emissions? It probably won't meet SULEV/PZEV?

I sent a note to their web admin and asked if there is someway to get a notice of when www.fueleconomy.gov is updated. They don't have an answer but his note indicated he shared it with his team.

My expectation is it will really be needed within 7-8 days to have the values available for our Thanksgiving holiday. The celebration is on Thursday and many people taking that Friday off too and visiting the car dealerships.

So, per the EPA's certified vehicle test report data, the Gen 4 Prius is certified to Tier 3 Bin 30 federal emissions, and LEV III SULEV 30 California emissions (the same thing as Tier 3 Bin 30, really).

For CO, measured emissions on the test cycle were 0.08 g/mi for the hot test, 0.45 g/mi for the cold test for 16-ZV3H, and 0.07 g/mi for hot, 0.7 g/mi for the cold test for 16-ZV1H. The limits were 1.0 g/mi hot, 10.0 g/mi cold, for SULEV 30.

For PM, measured emissions were 0.0003 g/mi for the California fuel 3-day exhaust test cycle, and 0.0013 g/mi for the US06 test cycle for 16-ZV3H, and 0.0002 g/mi for both cycles for 16-ZV1H. The limits were 0.003 g/mi for the first cycle, 0.01 g/mi for the second.

Essentially, the Ioniq could have around 10 times the CO and PM emissions and still be legal for T3B30/SULEV 30.

IIRC, Hyundai was saying 110 mile range in the first announcements.
And then we don't know the price. The battery is half the size of the one in the Bolt, and the sharing of many components with the hybrid and PHEV equal cost savings for Hyundai. If priced around the 85 mile Leaf, the Ioniq BEV could do well.

Funny you should mention a range of '150' miles. My hard requirement has always been "Huntsville-to-Nashville, 124 miles." So far all of them meet this hard requirement: Compare Side-by-Side
    metric 2017 Ioniq Electric 2017 Chevy Bolt 2016 Tesla S 2014 BMW i3 REx
    1 range mi 124 (1) 238 210 150
    2 City MPGe 150 119 98 117
    3 Hwy MPGe 122 110 101 117 (combined)
    4 Gas MPG 0 0 0 39
5 Drive front front rear rear
    6 Pass. Vol. 96 95 94 84
    7 Lugg. Vol. 23 17 26 15
    8 Motor kW 88 150 285 125
    9 Charge time L2 hrs 4 (2) 9.3 10 4
10 Refuel gas hr no no no 0.17
    11 1000 mi @65 mph hr 51.4 61.9 65.4 17.6
    12 1000 mi block mph 19.5 16.2 15.3 56.8 (3)

    1. 124 mile IONIQ has no reserve to deal with bad weather or unexpected delays.
    2. IONIQ claims 4 hours, the same as the BMW i3-REX for a full charge but the relative MPGe and range suggest something 'magical' is happening. We need to know its L2 charging rate as this number seems too good.
    3. 1000 mile trip - uses L2 charging times for the EVs from the EPA and gas refueling time of 10 minutes for the i3-REX. All charging and refueling assumes a full charge and tank at the start and one extra to handle the fractional distance remaining to complete the 1000 miles. Although the BMW i3-REX has significant battery capacity, we treat it as a gas-only car for the 1000 miles. Overhead miles from the interstate to the charging or gas station were not included.
All four cars meet the mandatory requirement, Huntsville-to-Nashville, one way. That means we can look at the optional requirements that are typically rated by a score depending upon one's anticipated use. Now this is completely subjective but this is how I would rate the optional requirements:
    • 50% - 1000 mile trip - this may allow getting rid of our Gen-3 Prius, saving insurance and maint.
    • 15% - rear wheel drive because we use trailers
    • 15% - motor hp because we use trailers
    • 20% - L2 charging time because this makes it a car, not 'driveway charging art'
Sad to say, the Prius Prime is not yet in the EPA data as it would be quite competitive with the 2014 i3-REX. But you can't run errands in a "PowerPoint" car.

150 miles would break a sales barrier i think. especially when you consider loss of ev range due to weather.
bolt looks good, but another 6" long and a few less ev miles might be a better package.

Hyundai Confirms SAE Combo 100 kW Fast Charging For IONIQ Electric

Funny that Hyundai would want to brag about the Ioniq's100kw DC charging capability , when there are no 100 KW Chargers in the US. Even more bizarre, they didn't take advantage of their CHADEMO membership - which their Kia Soul has .... and utilize the network which is an easy 100X larger than the SAE frankenplug - which - sad to say, it's being fitted with. Whopee . . . it could charge in under 20 minutes . . . if there were any charges.

CCS takes less space in the vehicle, and it seems to be the non-Japanese industry choice, though.

And, Volkswagen's gonna dump a couple billion into DCFC infrastructure, IIRC, and it's probably gonna be CCS.

    Manufacturers looked to create a new (SAE) format because Chademo membership costs were outrageous - so an open source was created. THEN CHademo opened up. As to VW's commitment to L3 infrastructure - i'd wait & see. They've been known to not necessarily be honest. They ARE part of the alliance;
