My 2014 Prius has rotational noise from 25mph to 38mph. I checked the alignment, it is good. I replaced all new tires, the noise gets even more evident.

Now, I am guessing it is a problem of bent rim. I'd like to try replace the rim. Where can I buy cheap but structure sound stock rim? I need stock rim, no fancy one.

    Here is too expensive: (originalwheels)
The one on eBay are used from accident car, not sure if it is structure sound.

It seems to me when the tire shop mounts and balances tires, they would notice an out-of-round condition. Perhaps it's a wheel bearing starting to fail? How many miles on the car, and is the noise always from the same corner, even if you rotate the tires?

    - 45k miles.
    - The noise is from the front. I am unable to pinpoint which side.
    - How do I know if this the problem of wheel bearing? I jacked up the car, and shaked the front wheels. They are tight.

Probably a visit to a dealership's service department, have them test drive, is your best bet. Perhaps they'll do it for free, considering how late model it is, should not be over $100. They can perhaps tell by the sound? If you're prepared to DIY:

I've attached a Repair Manual excerpt: the inspection procedure for front wheel bearing; you can see what's involved. If you're game to DIY, I can make another excerpt for bearing replacement.

Personally, I wouldn't take it on, it's tricky and tough. The inspection I would maybe do, but the replacement of bearing, if needed: I would just let the dealership handle it. And then, probably best to let them do the inspection too. Once they're in there they can decide how to proceed.

Here's an excerpt from a Honda Shop Manual on checking wheel trueness, btw. Toyota's Repair Manual doesn't appear to have anything comparable. Again, I'm guessing wheel trueness is not the issue, but it's interesting. :)

I am glad to know there is scientific procedure to check if the rim is sound. Thanks a lot!

I chased bents rims on myG2 for months. The one tire shop I went to never checked them for being bent which seems amazing to me since I came back multiple times. Went to another shop and they found 3 bent rims in about 2 mins. Prius rims are very lightweight and are easily bent. With a bent wheel The faster you go the more vibration you will feel in the car and it will not correct itself above a given speed as you state.

Quickest way to check for a bent rim is take it off the front and bolt it up on a back with the car jacked up and spin the tire and watch if it wobbles side to side. Its instantly noticeable if any run out or bent even slightly. The back wheels with brake off spin very freely.

But since your saying it stops at a specific speed I doubt its bent. I had a bad wheel bearing that made noise in a specific speed when it first started. You can figure that out by driving into the wheel or away from the wheel and listen for diminished sound

Just notice this on the previous page of Honda Shop Manual: it checks wheel bearing play WITHOUT removal of caliper or brake disc. You simply remove wheel and reinstall lug nuts with washers. Much simpler.

If you want you could DIY this procedure except use the Toyota bearing play spec (in PDF attachment).

A bent rim will shudder at speed, not make noise, you have a bad wheel bearing, both my gen2 and 3 had new bearings around 40k, both were quiet and trouble free after the new bearings.

The Honda Manuals are sweet: in a single 2 1/2" deep volume they accomplish, eloquently and easy to read, what Toyota cobbles together in four overpriced, disorganized tomes.... All done, lol.
