Elemare, I'm glad you took no offense at these um, wanderings. I felt embarrassed actually.

Sorry for any confusion, but if I understand your observation and you are referring to what's in the box in the lower left, it's a "standard auction" and uses "standard bidding" as opposed to "instant purchase." In this particular case, "standard" does not relate to the vehicle up for auction. Does that help?

No offense at all! I'm not sure how I ended up (or started out) at a place called 'Fred's House of Pancakes' but somehow talk of another restaurant named for its endowed servers can't be that far off topic. ;)

The confusion's not your fault, so you owe no apology.
Everybody that's even been in a Prius knows that there's no such thing as a "standard" Prius, but I presume that the people at RIPBS.org are interested in introducing newer drivers to the magical world of Priusdom.
Love the name btw.....RIP BS dot org?
    REAL marketing possibilities there!

Anyway the point is that, stereotypes notwithstanding, not all NPR listeners drive Priuses, VW busses, or Subies......and waaaaaaay back in the far-off days before cable TV, cassette players, and frozen TV dinners, people used to have to depress a third pedal in the floorboard of the car to "manually" move a "stick-like" apparatus in order to select the appropriate gear with which to operate the vehicle.

Since automobile makers and their dealers (then as now) are only interested in profit margins, they listed vehicles without automatic (or CVT) transmissions as "standards" because waaaaaaay back then (as now) the base MSRP was for vehicles with........you guessed it!
    Standard equipment.

Reader's Digest Version: Even someone who is considerable brighter than me might confuse that liating as being for a "standard" Prius...which in all fairness is quite accurate - BUT!! for a different reason. :)

Long way to go to make a point....but hey....you at least got another bump out of it. ;)

You got it! I was very impressed with the "standard" equipment that came with my first Prius - I remember thinking, 'What more could I possibly want anyway?' Anything I could add on seemed frivolous.

And I've driven one or two vehicles with those manual transmissions. Clutch and clench until you find the sweet timing for smooth transitions, ha!

    (Thank you for the bump.)
