    2. Want to minimize my production of CO2.
    3. I hate gas stations - want to minimize my trips to fill up.
    4. Just want a good, safe, quiet, reliable car. Don't care so much if it's a plug in or super efficient or not.

We are on solar power. We are off-grid, because we did not want to spend the extra money it costs to be grid-tied net-metering, and we did not want to be forced to go dark every time the grid goes down. During day-light we make more power than we can use. We want to use our surplus power to fuel a vehicle for free.

Paying to be off-grid on solar power, plus to pay for a Prime almost adds up to what it costs to pay for grid-tied net-metering [assuming you include all the interest charges on the financing].

    I guess #1 is the closest. :)

But really it is about cost cutting.

Seems to me that 1,2, and 3 are basically the same.

    Not at all.

Some people don't want to use petroleum even if it means a higher net output of CO2 than if they did. This might be for political reasons.
Some people just want to minimize their production of CO2, regardless of energy source. This is likely for climate change reasons.
Some people just hate going to the gas station and going through the process of handling or being around gasoline.

1 and 3 are similar, but have different intents. 2 is completely different, ev from coal emits co2, ev from solar or nuclear does not. someone with those electric sources could very well wish to reduce their co2 by going electric

Not one of those would actually serve the purpose for me, even if 3 were my thing.

No point in a car that can't transport you and your stuff to where you want to go.

agreed. i wasn't even thinking about you when i posted. but for people who hate gas stations, prime will only bring small relief, unless they rarely travel more than 10 miles from home.
especially if they become enamored with force charging.

1 and 4 but I do care that it's efficient and that it's mostly (for my trips) EV. If I didn't care that it's efficient or has a plug then I'd get a Lexus.

#1 ...... we depend on petroleum for all facets of our modern life.
Wasting it is in nobody's best interest. (sorry to state the obvious)

I was hoping someone would ask:
    • My current car (2004 Nissan Altima) has had problems and now is burning oil, an expensive fix
    • I am in college with a full ride, so family was willing to help pay for the Prime
    • I go see family a couple states away from school often, so I need that 640 mile range
    • I love all the technology that comes with the Prime
    • I have a very short drive to school plus they have a couple chargers, so the 25 mile EV range bothers me none
    • I almost never drive 4 additional people anywhere, so losing a 5th seat is fine.
    • The cargo space (even reduced compared to the regular liftback) is a bit more than the trunk of the Altima
    • Choices 1 - 4
My Prime Plus should arrive in December and I am very excited for it (y)

    1, 2, and price.
I and 2 have different motivations. I am skeptical of my conserving petroleum reducing national consumption but at least my fuel money is not propping up the world price of oil.
I also have a reservation in for the Tesla Model 3 I am more likely than not to use.
