    Hello,

Last week while driving my Prius, the car suddenly just stopped and various lights came up on the dashboard, including the ABS break sign and the check engine light.
I have attached a picture of the dashboard.

The car would not shift into any gear, so I got the vehicle towed to the mechanic, and he said that he got a P3090 error, along with several other sensor errors. He wasn't sure how to fix the issue.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thank You

*Edit: Error code in subject of thread is incorrect.
    Error code is 3190

How many miles on the odometer? 44K miles?

DTC P3190 means the engine has poor power. I suggest the following:

    1. Clean the throttle body interior and throttle body plate, using a clean cloth moistened with throttle body cleaner. Do not drown the throttle body in cleaner, contrary to the instructions on the throttle body cleaner can. The reason for this is that we don't need cleaner spray carrying dirt to travel along the throttle plate shaft and contaminate the throttle plate motor.
    2. Clean the mass air flow sensor using MAF sensor cleaner spray only.
    3. Make sure there are no leaks in the air induction system downstream from the mass air flow sensor.

Unfortunately, my mechanic was unable to perform the repairs you suggested adequately, so I was forced to take the car to a Toyota dealer. You were entirely correct! The car needed a MAF sensor replacement, throttle body and fuel injection cleaning, as well as a HV Battery Fan cleaning. Although the bill did come out to a hefty $871, thankfully it wasn't anything super serious.

Your help was greatly appreciated! Thank You very much!

That is a lot of money for that simple repair

I had this same problem a couple of years ago on my 2007. Driving along and suddenly the gas engine turned off and threw that code. The battery got me the remaining couple of blocks to home. I did have to stop and start the car a couple of times to keep it going under battery power.

Trying to start the car in that state would cause the gas engine to cycle for about 10 seconds or so and stop. I originally thought it was just running really rough and stalling out, but later realized it was actually the electric motor just trying to start the gas engine by cycling the pistons.

Anyway, looked on here and saw people talking about cleaning the MAF and throttle body. Got a can of cleaner for about $5 and gave the throttle plate and MAF a couple of good shots (don't touch the little MAF wire with anything, only the spray should touch it). Stuck a rag down the throttle body to clean up the mess at the bottom (use one that will not leave cloth fragments or anything else behind) and propped open the throttle body plate with a screwdriver for about 30 minutes to let the cleaner evaporate.

Disconnected the battery for a few minutes to clear the codes and then it started right up with no issues. That was about 75k mile ago.

I didn't take the MAF out entirely like some suggest. I just sprayed it while it was in the throttle body.

Odds are your MAF was still ok and just needed to be cleaned. Dealers often will replace a part even if they know it can easily be cleaned up and put back in service.

Well Toyota, to me knowledge, does not have a procedure to clean the MAF. In point of fact, no OEM does.

Then again, they don't have a procedure for MANY "upsell" jobs foisted upon unsuspecting consumers, so why not clean it? LOL
