There are a few threads about steering noise/clicking/rattling, but nothing about what I'm experiencing. It would be much appreciated if you share your ideas :)

So I only own this car for a couple of months. You know, in the beginning it's the difference between the old and the new, and slowly slowly some elements come into attention. I noticed this recently, and narrowed it down to driving straight, especially low speeds, and very lightly uneven surface. If I'm turning (even at a slight angle) is sound is almost completely gone.

I'm thinking that turning probably puts pressure on the elements that are failing/worn out, and therefore they stop crackling. Any ideas?

Edit: I'm able to replicate the sound when jiggling the steering wheel left and right quickly (turning only a few degrees each way).

Without hearing the sound and using a stethoscope, it's not possible to know for sure. But there are components in the steering column which provide electrical connectivity for the steering wheel buttons, horn and airbag. My guess is that it is most likely one of these connectors that's making noise, and not the steering column itself.

No, metals are producing the sound and not plastics. I'm able to replicate the sound when jiggling the steering wheel left and right quickly (turning only a few degrees each way).

Then pop the airbag off and take a look.

I suppose you check your control arm bushing or the ball joints

The car go the full 40k miles service recently but Toyota didn't report anything on the steering. I only have the car for 2 months so I only realised this noise afterwards, but pretty sure it was there from the beginning. So even something that sounds simple to you, is helpful to me. I'll put that down on the list of elements that need to be looked into, thanks.
