What a great experience buying from Dianne and her team there at Carson. Just got my Advanced on Tuesday night and have put a solid 300 miles on it already and really enjoying it on my commute.

    Thanks Dianne!

$1000 off already? wonder if Toyota might not be moving them as fast as expected.

I think there is a certain measure of two things happening. That rebate is a national one. Not regional. Meaning, it's countrywide.
I am selling these as fast as they are arriving. Tax credit and state money + carpool stickers drive demand here. But, we get 45% of all the prime across the entire country so we do need more + we get more.
That said, there's a certain volume of vehicles Toyota needs to move before year-end that get a certain fuel economy... meaning the balance of fuel hungry Tundra and Sequoia and of course the SUVs like Highlander and 4Runner needs counterbalance from cars that get 50+ MPG. CAFE and EPA and all that. The 2 month stop-sale on all 2016 Prius we experienced with the brake clip issue didn't help matters.
Giving the Prius and Prime a quick boost before the end of the year makes perfect sense to me. I only hope they continue that effort. In CA, rebate / low apr's isn't driving Prime demand. The car itself and the carpool lane needs are! I expect the demand to worsen (explode and increase a lot!!) once we get into 2017 and folks have time to plan for the tax credit to affect them positively.

    Hi Dianne,

I've been wondering about the rebate and it's timing. Do you know for a fact that Toyota is currently behind either ZEV or CAFE targets ?

dianne if pre sold then i can claim the rebate on my 2016 taxes (4/15/2017) ?? or i have to wait till when I do 2017 (4/15/2018)? I dont get a check right? I just write it off when I do my taxes or do I acutually get a check back from Federal and State(CA)?? If i have to buy before the new year to claim now.. then a year later, I am thinking to jump on it now. Thanks in advance.

Federal tax incentives fall under the delivery date of the vehicle. I was trying to find a Prime Advanced before Dec 31st for the same reason you outlined but I had no luck.

The year in which you buy your car is the year you have the tax credit available to you.

I've more been surprised by the rebate and the low apr's and Toyota's lack of enthusiasm for this car's appeal to a lease crowd. But, it does make sense in CA that w/o HOV access after 2019, it's just another Prius out there, so to speak. Once someone else's taken the state cash incentive + the federal one, it's literally just another Prius off lease. :)

what i dont understand is that if a person were to lease prime, Toyota would be the one getting the $4,500 fed credit, which would be applied to the residual of the car. Shouldnt this drop the monthly lease pricing on the prime?

i could be wrong. i read it that other companies (VW) put it towards the residual.

I don't know about TFS but e.g. Tesla applies the tax credit as a capital expense reduction. Think of it as Uncle Sam coming along the day of the lease and adding $4,500 to your down payment.

So yes, the monthly payments are reduced, if all else stays the same.
