The only thing that disappoints me is the lethargic charging rate, 3.3 kW. Any rumors of something higher, 6.6 kW would be great! Or better still, a CCS option for fast DC charging? Thanks, Bob Wilson
People have upgraded their chargers in Volts and Leafs. I do not see Toyota offering a larger one though. GM only bumped the gen2 Volt's charger up to 3.7kW from 3.3kW. For PHEV, the manufacturers likely have figured that a faster one isn't worth the cost for the few people willing to pay the price.
Thanks! I suspected that would be the case until Toyota takes another look at the RAV4 EV and start sharing the technology across their lines ... That is probably about 3-4 years in the future. Bob Wilson
Yeah with the newly formed EV division headed by Akio himself, we may have to wait til 2020 to see what they come up with. I don't know if they're still going forward with the plan for a fuel cell Lexus LS to be the official car for the Tokyo Olympics or whether they'll push for an EV. This is a slightly "looser" timeline than the Gen 1 Prius (from the 1995 Tokyo Motor Show concept car to the Dec 1997 launch)
