I wonder if Hyundai will wait to release the Ioniq when gas prices go up.

Originally it was to be on sale months. Ago

Could be, Honda has delayed or cancelled hybrid models for North America. Trucks and SUVs are also selling better, even the smaller fuel efficient ones.
Hyundai is also going through a shake up with replacing the US branch CEO.

Based on everything I have read .... eh Ioniq hybrid was due to arrive in the USA before the end of 2016. I do not believe that it did. The Ioniq EV was due shortly after the first, and the PHEV was due by summer. A month of so ago I visited my authorized Hyundai dealer, spoke with the Sales Manager, and he had never heard of the Ioniq ... asked if it was a "concept car?"

It arrived before the Ioniq in other markets, and Kia let Wayne Gerdes take one on a cross country already.

Ahhhh, the "Beta-ware" wars in the automotive market. How about them Taylors:
FUELAcademy - Fuel Economy Specialists | World Record Fuel Efficiency Drivers

Too bad many of their record beating vehicles are no longer for sale in the USA. Wayne had at least one too. One of his early posts about the VW disaster was concern about his Guiness record.

Hummm, hope that is not a pattern . . . set a record and that vehicle is leaves the USA market.

A lad at work bought a Niro, really happy with it. Said getting 65 mpg (imperial), but from his trip computer, not brim to brim i believe. Looks similar to the new Sportage, which has pretty well acclaimed looks.

So you're saying that lad is matching your MPG then in a 4th gen Prius? And it's with a larger car?

Yes and no. He is telling me what the trip computer says. The Hyundia (so Kia) trip computer was often 15 miles out compared to trup mpg. The prius seems only 5 mpg over optimistic. I guess i get better mpg if driven economically. However my Fuelly mpg is not up to date, i am now mainly in power mode and likely returning 55 mpg.

He may not have gone through a tank yet.;)

I wouldn't call the Niro larger. It might be in actual measurements, but not with the difference to take it to different segment size. The Camry to Prius is likely larger.

Aerodynamically, though, it's definitely quite a bit larger, due to being taller...

Unless Hyundai gets off the pot and sells Ioniq stateside we can just imagine what the vaporware US version is like.

Only benefit I can see (for us not Hyundai) is that we might get the bigger gen ii Ioniq battery in the state version.
2x 200 mile EVs for sale is something everyone can get into.

And the sooner they do it the faster I can buy a used example.

At any rate, I'm glad Toyota is finally getting some decent competition in the Hybrid space.
