On a (sort of) related subject, I was wondering how well dark tint on the hatch window works in this regard. I have never had anything other than factory tint on any of my cars, but will likely get tinting on my next one. I'm thinking even with dark tint, at night a thief with a flashlight might still be able to see what's in the cargo area, but I would be willing to accept that slight risk if I could ditch the tonneau cover which I find I am often having to remove on my Gen2 when carrying cargo as it gets in the way.

Mine came rolled up. I wasn't sure what it was, until I took it apart. On my gen 2 I had a heavy one like the one that comes with the Advanced, and I thought I wasn't going to like this one, but honestly, it is much more practical. It lifts with the back hatch door, which is much more convenient if you are taking the charger out every night and putting it back in the car in the morning.

I'm waiting for Car Shades and KiddiShades Brands to come out with a Gen 4/Prime version.

They have one for the Gen 2 I think (although probably too late in ownership to spend on a set). It seems like a good idea. For those of us in northern latitudes, the removable aspect is nice so that you can see out the windows during the dark winter months and put the shades back on for the summer months.

On your Gen2, did you ever put a box or something in the back and then pulled the cover over it and the box pressed into the cover a bit but seemed okay. Then while you're going down the road and hit a bump the box lifts up and pushes the cover off of its grooves, and the cover recoils with a loud bang a few feet behind your head. The first time it happened I almost wrecked. Now I'm more used to it, when I hear the bang I'm still startled but at least I am able to stay in my lane

Prime Premium comes with a lightweight foldable tonneau cover. It's in a flat black bag about the size of a grocery bag with yellow writing on it. I had to remove mine though because the trunk is so shallow that if you use the cover you cannot put in grocery bags etc without completely obliterating the rear view. Need a better solution for this car, i.e. one that can stay attached but fold at the back seat when not using. I'm not sure if the advanced version works any better.

No. The heavy one in my advanced completely wastes the trunk space. That's why I want to try the premium cover instead.

I see what you mean; I didn't realize that it was solid. Is it easy to disconnect? Can it be used so it rests at an angle on top of the contents instead of completely lowered?

If it's anything like the one in my old Prius C, it's solid and rests on bumper stops. It only has three positions - up all the way with the hatch up, down flat and level when the hatch is down, or angled and not level resting on whatever you crammed in underneath. Actually, there's a fourth position - out of the car and in storage somewhere.

When grocery shopping, we used to put the eggs and bread on top of the cover. Are these newer versions strong enough for that?

@Lemooron As far as I know, yes that's correct.

Well "solid". It's actually mesh fabric with a wire frame. You can twist/fold it up like a sunshade and comes with a pouch for storage (if you wish to store it).

It's held near the rear seats where the tonneau cover (the roller type) bar would be. At the rear of the car, there are 4 sets of strings - two to attach to the hatch door so that it rises when the door opens. And two to attach to the body (similar to the cargo net) to provide stability when the hatch door is lifted and the tonneau cover is raised.

You can see the 4 strings clearly in the 3rd photo.

So yeah it's easy to attach/remove and because it's a mesh, it'll just lie on top of whatever you have. If you don't want the cover raised when the door is opened, just don't attach the top two strings.

Thanks for the info. I've actually never seen an Advanced in person. Nor any other Prime, other than the one I test drove. :)

I would assume these covers are sold by the parts department for those of use who would like the Premium cover to put on an Advanced. Although they may be hard to come buy initially as they are under warranty and likely not listed for sale in the parts inventory. I am really considering this as the Advanced cover takes up about 4 to 5 inches from the back side of my cargo area since I can't have it pulled out with my crates in the cargo area. We use folding crates for shopping rather than bags in general, just find them easier to cart in after shopping. But they are just a little too tall for being under the cover. Lower the batter 2 inches and the world would be a better place.

Has anyone looked into ordering the folding cover? Do we have the mount points in the Advanced to even use it?

i have the premium car cover i'd trade for the advanced if anyone is the los angeles area.

Is the intent of the cover to hide goods in the back?

I found mine buried in a plastic bag with some hubcaps... even though my prime came with the alloy wheels.
