Concept is good. Affordable transportation vehicle to add to a family of big vehicles. Too bad it's not working.

bedecorp.com for those moving up from Revell plastic models to the real thing.

I had friends who bought the first kit, sight unseen. Of course they mostly were retired workers from an aircraft re-hab facility and knew all about riveting, cleco use, and aircraft aluminum.

They paid the deposit, then waited through revisions, model changes, and ended up with the BD-5 propeller in the back, single seater kit.

Agreed. If gas prices were at what they were in 2008, Elio's chances would have been better.

This would be the perfect vehicle for my son who is in college. This is another market that I don't understand why it hasn't been a hit. Does anyone know why the Elio is failing? Everything I read about it is written by people who want him to fail.

In fact, the more I read about the car, I can't see why it isn't doing well. They already contracted with PepBoys to do their warranty work! The car is really for those who want a comfortable vehicle that doesn't cost alot in maintenance and repairs.............along with over 600 miles distance on 8 gallons of gas!!

Because they're setting their targets on literally selling enough Elios a year to be the #7 best selling car in the US.

For a two-seater (a class that doesn't sell well), that has three wheels (a class that has never sold well anywhere), and is legally a motorcycle (exempting it from safety and emissions regulations... and why would you do that if you were planning on meeting them?)

I see. Well, I still would like to see him get the financial backing he wants. I think the niche market he is trying to hit will support his operation.

The problem is that he's not trying to hit a niche market, he's trying to hit the mainstream, and that's the only way his financial numbers work.

But, he's not selling something that even can hit the mainstream, unless it's literally in the immediate aftermath of losing World War III. (The immediate aftermath of losing World War II in Germany was the only time this class of vehicle was ever mainstream.)

Great Briton had some for the same reason.

let's face it, how many parents are willing to put the child in a 3 wheel vehicle with few safety features?

Junkyard wars contestants could have built one in a 30 minute show out of a Gen2 Prius and a snowmobile.
