    Hello All
When I get on the freeway at about 45 I start to hear what sounds like a little motor at high rev coming from the left rear area of the car (or it could be described as a rumbling noise) it is at its loudest at 55 and goes away as I approach 60 mph

To review pretty loud rumbling noise starts at 45 goes away at 55.

Is it alignment or tire balance or maybe a rock in the tread?
    Thanks

Not normally, but it seems to fit. I wouldn't rule it out. I can also imagine some sort of tire defect that that only makes that sound at certain wheel rpms. In my experience, a rock in the tread makes a clicking sound at low speed on pavement, especially with an open window.

2010's are notorious for early wheel bearing failure, albeit, still a very small number.

    If it's a mis-balanced tire(s), you would get vibration....are you experiencing this?
Sounds like a worn bearing to me.

There is no vibration I can feel
Is it advisable to drive the car until I can find out ? is there any way I can determine for sure?

generally, bearing noise will become intolerable before failure. a dealer probably gets close tp 200 bucks.

Would a tree tire rotation and rebalance be a good place to start? Thanks

a tire rotation might give you a clue if the sound seems to move. i had a flat spot on a tyre, and when i swapped front to back, it got much noisier in the front.

If you suspect it is a tire issue, rotate it and if the noise or vibration moves with the tire, now you know what to go after. If it stays in the left rear, now it's something there;).

    Hope that helps(y).

Both my gen 2+3 needed f wheel bearings around 40,000, obnoxious noise.
But a noise from one side of the rear just might be a tire with a torn belt, it should show visually if jacked up and spun.

I'd guess way more than $200 for a dealer to replace a hub. They'll probably charge 200 alone for the new hub.
I'm guessing $500 out the door.
I've done a few hubs in my garage on our cars....one on my Prius....easy to moderate job depending on how easy it wants to come off.
I drove my Prius with a wearing hub for over a year before it become so annoying, and began to effect mpg
