I took my car in for hail damage and the mechanic stated that he had two high mileage Prius'. I did not think much of it at the time, but looking back now I wonder if he may not have done something over the 3 days they had my car. My 2007 Prius is just shy of 10 years old and has less than 40,000 miles on it.

I am now thinking that maybe this guy did something.

You will need to dig down to the modules themselves, but yeah, absolutely.

If the dates on the modules are within a month of the month your Prius was manufactured (and the dates on each module vary by no more than a couple of days), they are the originals that were installed in your car.

If not, the mechanic would have had to have swapped packs with another vehicle.

Why would you think the mechanic did something? Just from him mentioning he had 2 high mileage prius?

i wonder if a 2007 with 40,000 miles is any better.

Yes it's better, but normally people don't have those suspicions after a conversation. Unless that's something you would do

Yeah @Darin I highly doubt it; don't get into paranoia. Just thinking logically, there's way too much downside to a mechanic doing something like this. How's your car running, same as usual?

Why would you even say something like that? You don't even know me and you are calling me a thief? So I guess all good police detectives are serial killers, rapists and murderers?

You are probably right Mendel. The reason that I even suspected it is because of the crappy job they did and I only found out about after they were long gone.
After a big hail storm these guys are on every street corner with pop-up tents. Even though the people that I dealt with were working out of my dealer's car lot, they were still gone within a month.

The fan comes on in the back to cool down the hybrid batteries almost instantly or within a few minutes and the triangle comes on with the check engine and tire pressure light immediately. There is definite lag in power at times as well. I never drive more than 5 miles, so I have not had any breakdowns etc..

Since the Check Engine light comes on, the dealer should be able to read the trouble codes. Tell us the codes and perhaps we can help further.

My apologies. Didn't get your reasoning until your posts afterwards. If the car is driving different and warning lights are on, then maybe something was done to your car.

Also keep in mind 2007 is 10 years old, it can fail at anytime

Did all of these problems exist prior to the visit to the dealer for hail damage repairs? Have you read the codes to see what they are?

if these symptoms are new, i would check the date codes, even if those guys are gone, doesn't the dealer know them? they allowed them to work their lot, there's some responsibility.

Did the car sit for a long period while waiting for the hail damage repair. (weeks?)
A ten year old battery could begin have problems due to age.
There could be some telltale sighs if the battery has been swapped. I could provide some other ideas if you want to walk through it via phone. Like bolt placement, etc.
