Has anyone ever replaced a non-navigation display information screen with a navigation screen? Are they compatible? There happens to be one available nearby and I'm thinking of grabbing it up.

It is not as easy as it sounds. You will need to buy a few more bits and then you will need to install the wiring looms to the under-seat components.

If you are after navigation you'd get better value installing a Navman or Garmin.

Not trying to gain the navigation function; only need a new MFD as curent functions are fading.

In that case, as far as I'm aware, they are not interchangeable. It is best to get the part number off the back of your current unit and replace like for like.

Many thanks for your input. I will wait until the right MFD comes along.

The screen is called an MFD (Multi-Function Display) and you CAN use a nav MFD in a non-nav car or the other way around. (As noted above, the nav electronics are not in the MFD, only the additional buttons are, so you can't add nav by just changing screens.) In 2006, Toyota switched to a higher resolution screen and added telephone Bluetooth to the MFD. They also changed the wires around on the main connector. (I've also seen reports that the base model cars in 2006-2008 may still have the 2004/2005 MFDs.) My 2004 base model had a damaged screen. I found a 2004 nav MFD in a pick-n-pull and got it for cheap and it works perfectly in my non-nav car, totally plug-n-play (no re-wiring). Then I found a 2006 with higher-res screen, Bluetooth and rear-view camera. If I had taken the radio with the MFD, I suspect I could have added the wires for the Bluetooth (phone only), but I did get the backup camera (and higher resolution) by swapping the pins on the main connector and adding the wires and plug for the camera connections. see this thread for the pin swaps: Will 86110-47230 work instead of 86110-47081 in 2005 Base Model? | PriusChat
