Hey all! Toyota and TRI are putting together an event on March 3rd, at the Sonoma Raceway, specifically for our highly data-minded Prius drivers - and I knew that was something a few of you would be interested in.

It's a competition, in teams of five, to see who can get the highest possible gas mileage out of a 2017 Prius. There will. E a number of leading technical speakers (no announcements yet!), and e'll be providing access to a lot of data analytics about the car's performance for you to play with.

Space is limited, so if you or anyone you know is interested, we encourage you to apply ASAP!

My goal personally, is not to get the best mileage, it is to use the least gas, so I will not be invoved.
Just hearing your ideal team, it should have Bob Wilson of Huntsville AL on it.

When first announced, I didn't see enough to understand the rules. I see the web page has been upgraded but I'm kinda busy this weekend with my new Prius Prime Plus that I just drove over 1,000 miles in a single day to get home. And when I get bored with that one, I've got a 2014 BMW i3-REx.

But first, Kudos for holding the event at a race track. Historical 'mileage contests' (aka., Hybridfest) were held on public streets and some of the practices ... left a lot to be desired on public roads.

Monday, I'll print off a copy of the rules to see if there is anything interesting. If this is just a 'driving contest,' I'll have to pass. I'm not a 'mileage is in the driver' sort of guy. But if we're allowed to do . . . mechanical and engineering things . . . well that could be fun. Combine it with Junkyard Wars . . . that would be fun!

@bwilson4web: It's only open to California residents, so you'd not be eligible anyway, it looks like...

Alright! I applied. I live 30 miles away. I would love to participate. I work a 9/80 and March 3 is my Friday off. I don't even have to take a day off work. This sounds like so much fun. I hope I get accepted.

I would be interested, but a drive to Palo Alto over a month before for an "orientation" during the work week is a deterrent :(.

Any reason for this "orientation" over a month prior to the event and on a Wednesday evening?

    The rules:

    Who is eligible to partcipate?
Participants must be residents of California with a valid driver’s license, and must be age 21 or older.

Well that leaves me out. <GRINS at the relief.>

They won't let you drive your Prime out there to compete? Why do they only want California data-minded drivers? Are they researching how data-minded Californian drivers are??

Are you considered a California resident, though? If so, give it your best shot. Hopefully you get to drive for your team.

For some years Toyota's Marketing has only believed in California. (From 2012 to 2016, could try to buy a Prius PHEV in another state, but in the end you would have it shipped from CA)
My understanding is that Toyota USA is moving from CA to TX, so eventually they will only believe Texas exist.

I thought the PHV was mainly California due to CARB restrictions and CA is "CARB headquarters"

I signed up...I hope I get picked and get teamed up with some of you.

I said that I hoped to show that a bunch of ordinary people can accomplish extraordinary things when we work as a team.

The article says Toyota North America. I did not know they existed. North America is more than the United States. I see nobody mentioned moving from Canada to Texas.

We're still here as far as I know.

I think that's the new name for the new conglomerate. TMS was just the sales part. Now that multiple divisions are moving to Plano, I'm guessing that's their new umbrella name.
