Hello guys so I did my research before buying a prius in this low oil price market we are having, but I did not buy it for its superb fuel efficiency or saving some cash as much as I bought it to "save the world" one pound of co2 at a time, I love my planet and I would like to do whatever I can to keep it great for all of us. I bought a used 2012 prius three in may of 2016, I got a pretty good deal since it had nav, bluetooth, and back up camera. I have been using it and of course im not much of a thrill seeker but the first few weeks it took some time getting used to it and I also forgot to turn it off several times....... yea it's so quite that sometimes you don't know if its off or not.

Here is where I need help!!!

So I have maintained my car and have been taking good care of it and I have been reading this forum for years always wanting to own one of these precious vehicles when I had enough money to afford one. I made sure to take care of the tire pressure (44, 42) setup on LRR tires. I modified my driving habits and made sure everything is good. My average in NYC is about 38MPG O.O!!! IDK why.

Also I have noticed that sometimes when I hit the brakes lightly the car surges forward as if accelerating and then starts slowing down on more than one occasion. Is this the brake recall issue I have read about in the third gen cars?

    Thanks for all your help!

There was an issue with 2010 Prius and a software recall fixed it. My memory is fuzzy, but I do not recall if making it to 2012.
UPDATE: Braking Issue In 2010 Toyota Prius Hybrid, Recall TBD

If you brake gently, almost all your braking can be via the Motor/Generators regenerating electricity .
If you brake harder, friction brake pads take over more and more duties.
The 'user interface' of the two systems is not the same, and sometimes you can feel the change.

One example; on wet pavement you pass over a manhole with a front tire.
Since the regenerative brakes only operate on the front tires, they quit braking, and the friction brakes on all 4 wheels take over. You as the driver will feel a loss of braking then a resurgence, but the actual brakes are always braking but the 'feel' is different.
