It looks like my prime decides to plan the shortest route which may not be the smartest decision. How can I change its mind? Can't find anywhere in the menu shortest route vs. quickest route.

When I see that sort of thing on my 2009, I generally just don't take the turns onto the inefficient/unwise path and take the more efficient route instead. That is, when I get there, I just don't do what obviously looks inefficient on the map or on the roads themselves.

This should set it permanently. You also have to be under Route Guidance so just pick a random place.

I live in the east bay. Sometimes I need to drive to Sausalito. The option is through San Francisco vs. the longggggggggg way around north. Sometimes SF route is faster, sometimes it is much slllllllllllllllllllllllllllllower. Last time the car told me to dare the SF route. Big mistake.

Doesn't it just drive you crazy that you buy a car with a high end navigation system only to turn to the phone in your pocket to get you places? The voice system to tell it to navigate places is so horrible that it is unusable. Press the button Say Navigation....Say Find in POI (if it doesn't recognize POI in there it goes off and tries to do some other function), Type of POI (grocery), select number....NO NO NO! I want to tell you where I want you to find the grocery...Near City Center....Say the city center....WHAT NO I said Massachusetts not Montana. How do you even get Montana from Massachusetts? Pick up my phone from charging...Ok Google, driving directions to Wegmans in Burlington MA. Done!

You know it isn't really the navigation that is the problem, it is the abysmal voice recognition system and the horrible menu system. I will still use the navigation, but it could be so much better. Even the navigation in my 2006 Ridgeline is better than this and that is 11 years old.

    Exactly!

Also, why when you search the official Toyota website for using the Entune apps with Prime does it tell you that selection is not available?
    entune-support-topics!

Come on Toyota. We're tired of being your beta testers

That's correct. It's hard to get a destination programmed in, but once it is, it actually works really well.

Agreed. The navigation system works well once you get used to it Ben though programming it is way too much work IMHO.

However, the maps seriously need updating. In my case I use a couple of new streets that are well over a year old but do not show on the screen. Does anyone know how or when we might receive updates?

Don't know, but past experience with Google Maps is that it takes more than a year for new streets to get all the way through from the data providers to the user.

And Toyota charges through the nose for the maps. I was stunned when I called and asked the price of a new DVD map for my 2004 with nav and the person said it was something like $265. I said no thanks.

How do you enter a destination like a motel in the nav system? Can you enter it as a POI or do you have to enter an address?

If you look carefully at the Toyota website for phone compatibility with Entune, you will see they are only testing available phones. For example, the Samsung Galaxy 6 is listed with nearly full compatibility, but my Galaxy S4 Active is not showing 'No data/Not available". This is the same way with EVERY manufacturer who has Entune and equivalent applications. If they had to test all phones that are currently in use in the real world, you would have thousand of phones to test which is not practical.

The best way to provide accurate compatibility data for older cell phones with Entune would be to create a post in this forum and add our cell phone brand (and Carrier) to the post with a thumbs-up or thumbs-down concerning Entune compatibility, similar to what Toyota is providing.

That isn't what Toyota is providing.

They provide crazy detailed data on what works, what doesn't work, and what they don't know about *by feature*, not just by phone and by car model. It's not just up or down.

My experience with this site is that it is very inaccurate. Stuff it told me didn't work in the past works just fine in reality, at least on my current car.

Try the voice training option. Can't hurt.

Does the navigation system use traffic conditions to determine the route? Google Maps does, but you have to be careful. It might look like the fastest way, but traffic conditions could change in an hour when you would be there. There's got to be some time lag too. Sometimes local knowledge and experience trumps these nav systems.

It'll reroute you if things change. You can set it to ask you if you wish to reroute or automatically reroute.
