    Is a "new" Toyota battery better than an aftermarket battery rebuilt with Gen2 cells? Is Toyota still producing Gen1 batteries or are these old ones?

    Yes.
    Yes, they are, although the modules originally used are no longer manufactured, Toyota use the new generation modules that are currently produced, to build batteries for Gen I Prius.

    If, as a result of damage caused by the diesel mishap, and the battery needs to be replaced, I would not accept anything other than a genuine Toyota supplied replacement.
