Where do people put it? I notice there's a sensor right next to the mirror where I put it in the PiP. Do you put it beside it. Do you put the electronic toll-pass thing away and take it out when you need it?

Ok where do you mount it? To the right of the mirror and sensor?

We put ours just below the sensor on the right, leaving a slight air gap since my wife said it looks like it is open so guessing it may be the humidity detector that is supposed to have some impact on the auto climate control. It worked fine yesterday, the first time we needed to pay a toll since buying the car, so we will see. From the driver's seat I can't see it. In MA our transponders don't beep, so you are generally guessing as to if they worked or not.

Based on an issue we had with similar types of sensors located near the rear view mirror in a 2014 Acura, I put the E-Z pass tag on the (inside) windshield, near the roofline, in the center of the passenger side - about a foot away from the rear view mirror. So far it has been read properly four times, four different locations, and doesn't seem to be interfering with any sensors.

For those wondering, we placed the E-Zpass tag in the usual location, quite near the rearview mirror in the Acura. After a few months, we were getting warnings about the various systems failing in that new car (lane departure, etc.) The dealer couldn't find anything wrong but suggested moving the E-Zpass because it might be interfering. That was the problem, because all the failure warnings stopped after we moved the tag. This is with the current, smaller rectangular tags.

We put our EZ Pass to the right of the windshield wiper sensor. We left a little gap so air could get through if need be.

I set mine on top the the screen. It works great and is completely unobtrusive.

I am dealing with this right now. I have Premium level. I attached it behind the mirror just under the area reserved for some kind of sensors. Looks like I am going to be moving it soon, based on this thread.

I don't bother even carrying it. For the Bay Area, we have FastTrack but they are probably similar. Once the vehicle is registered, they have the license plate and will be taking pictures of the license anyways so with or without the FastTrack device they know it is your car and you will be charged.

I just keep it in my glove compartment or console. It still works going across the Bay Area bridges. If not, they read your license plate anyway. I don't want to give someone and excuse to break into my car to steal it.

Totally, if the device is lost or stolen, you will have to pay I think $25 to replace it. It works perfectly for me with having it in the car as long as my vehicle(s) are registered so I don't see any point of keeping it with the car and worry about someone taking it as Mike stated.

E-Z pass devices are ubiquitous. We've had them in our cars since 1994 and no one has broken in for any reason (thankfully). I don't think the tag incites theft.

According to the E-Z pass website: if you go through an E-Z pass lane and "your vehicle does not have a toll tag, the the system classifies you as a violator and takes photos of your license plate for processing."

There are only two E-Z pass toll plazas that I know of that do NOT classify non-tag holders as violators: the new one at the Tappan Zee bridge, and the one at the Henry Hudson bridge. There are no longer toll takers in either location so they don't penalize if you are passing through without a tag.

I don't know if they care if you use your FastTrack tag in California, but here in E-Z pass land you should probably keep it in the car if you don't want to risk an additional fine.

I wouldn't say CA is more lax. If a toll tag isn't detected, what happens is that they take a photo of the plate. If they can't match it up to a valid FasTrak account, you get a fine. The only folks that get a free ride are the ones with a paper licence plate. Those are going away soon. When my car got stolen, we found it. The theives removed the plates and put paper ones on. There's a lot of folks here that don't have FasTrak, as evidenced by the big backups in the toll paying lanes on the bridges.

Yup I never understand why people would hesitate on getting a FastTrak account setup to save time going through bridges and toll booths.

The new Dublin-Livermore 580 express lane requires a physical Fastrak Flex transponder on the dashboard. Going through the bridge won't require one in the car though.

Thanks! I like this idea. Going to try it on my next trip to NH/Maine over Thanksgiving weekend. Don't have any toll highways in VT, but/and I'm glad to have EZPass on my trips outside the state. Since I got my new Gen 4 I've simply been holding mine up on the windshield as I've gone through toll stops and haven't had any issues (except holding it while driving is, ah, inconvenient). Was glad the dealer noticed the pass on my old Gen 2 windshield when I traded it in.

In NYC, the Triborough (I refuse to call it by its current name), Throgs Neck, and I believe the Whitestone are also w/o toll booths. Smile - You're on Candid Camera!

I put mine down low on the windshield as far to the right as I could get it, so lower right corner passenger side. Seems to work fine. and it only blocks the passenger from looking at the hood. Before mounting it I called a dealer, and they recommended not putting it anywhere near the rearview mirror.
