How odd. They have a product of their own making yet fight against customers wanting and getting it.

Uh, I got the sales papers Tuesday evening and on Wednesday, will handle the paperwork and send them back to the dealer with the bank check. With luck, I'll fly to Rhode Island in January to drive our new Prius Prime home. If it is canceled later ... say after the IONIQ or Bolt arrives and completely decimates the Toyota Prius line (BRUHAAHAAHHAHHHHAAA!)

Sorry, this is one of the best FUDs since the Bolt ... or Bob Lutz and the Volt ... or any one of a long, long list of eulogies for the Prius.

What I do expect is the price of non-Prime Prius to take a significant price reduction OR adopt the one-way clutch and become a 1-2 mile range EV ... enough to resolve the last warm-up problem. In 2018, the ordinary Prius will kick the IONIQ to the curb in both performance and price.

Then incorporate this in the refresh of the Camry, Prius v, and Prius c, three strikes and the IONIQ is out. Actually apply it to the whole Toyota hybrid family and then beg the question: Why sell crappy cars, pickups, vans, and SUVs?

Since you seem knowledgeable, I'm looking to buy a 2012 PIP with the Advanced Technology package, but was just told, by someone selling one, that it does not have lane maintenance, though much of what I've seen online says it does. When did lane maintenance becoem avialble, and which Prii have it....I've heard all new models do...

no mention of lane departure on 2012 to 2015 Prius Plug in according to cars.com. looks like the Prime is the first one to have it when it comes to plug in prius's

I would think the Wash DC Beltway dealers will have decent Prime stocks, especially MD with good incentives and low sales taxes. [/QUOTE]
Yes I got my low optioned Plus in MD from Koons. Got almost 2000 off MSRP which includes the Toyota 1000 rebate. Took a one way flight for $200 to get there and drove 765 miles to home. The one dealer in my state who has one wants almost a $10000 markup. The last time I checked Koons inventory there were 31 Primes and most discounts off MSRP were around $1000. No problems to sell to an out of state person.

    That's correct.

LKA was removed for the PiP (2012-2015) even though it was still available on the regular Prius (2010-2015).

Hopefully this is a preview of what prices will be like everywhere once Prime inventories start to build up at dealers.

I ordered mine in mid-January in Austin, TX, or more precisely in Round Rock just North of Austin (big dealership for Toyota, Honda, and Hyundai, part of the Penske Auto group).

This probably doesn't mean very much, but they estimated that one would come up in the early-March time frame. No way to know how good an estimate that is, but I saw a YouTube video from where they got one for general-market sale, and the salesman said that they have sold a few. He also made crystal clear that I am not required to buy it when it comes if I don't like it, and that they didn't expect any problems selling it if I don't buy it.

Also, another dealer I asked for a comparative price on has been periodically poking me saying, "we can still get you that Prius Prime, OK?" So, the dealers in this area at least appear to want to compete in the Prius Prime market.

My current plan is to wait until/through the first week in March, after which I'll tell them that I'd like to also order one through that other dealer. (Hint hint!)

To a limited degree (time), I don't mind waiting a little, to give Toyota a chance to clean up any lingering bugs...

The first year it's been standard for Prius and a few other models is 2017.
It's part of an options group in 2016 on higher end Prius. And, other models.
Back in 2012, I'd have to see the vin# of the car to verify if it had the top advanced adds to check the packages. Lane Keep assist is what I think you mean, and while it's been an option on regular Prius and Prius v over the years, it's n/a on PlugIns. I'd always thought it was due to weight restrictions to get the cars at the EPA/electric travel rating... but it's been re-named in this package on Prius and Prime:
Toyota Safety Sense (TSSP): Pre-Collision System w/Ped Detection, Lane Dep Alert w/Steering Assist, Auto High Beams,Full- Speed Rng Dynamic Radar Cruise Control

Thank you! How can you tell from the Vin if it has pre-collision, adaptive cruise, and Lane Keep assist? There used to be a good link you could plug the vin into and find out all the packages, but I haven't found one that works recently...As the supply of Prius Prime goes up, do you think the first generation PIP prices will go down? We had so many Leafs and Chevy Volts coming off 3-year -lease that THEY are REALLY cheap now, with gluts on Leafs and Volts selling quickly...But PIP Advanced are hard to find and often mislabeled...I'd imagine Japan, Canada, and Europe had TSSP much sooner, and perhaps LKA even on plug-ins? We are awaiting our Primes and Bolts in Atlanta...

2012-2015 Prius Plug Ins all had Advanced Tech packages available, but no Lane Keep assist included, unfortunately! I really wanted that feature!
