Any News on Gen 2 Prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon)

    I have a 2012 Prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon because only 2010 Prius used uppercase Roman numerals for model designation) and want to purchase a new redesigned model. Anyone heard if there is going to be a redesign and if so when? I have not heard anything about a Gen. 2 redesign.

    I too am very interested to know if there will be a generation 2 v (it's still a lowercase v for the Prius v wagon because only 2010 Prius used uppercase Roman numerals for model designation), but have not heard anything yet either

    Absolutely no chatter about it. Some of us are skeptical they would do a major refresh given the volume of sales has been low with buyers getting RAV4 hybrids instead. Though maybe adding safety systems and a minor refresh given that the same model sells reasonably in other markets.

    Well, 1Gen Prius v was unveiled late 2011, almost 2 years and a half after 3Gen Prius hatchback.
    According to the same sequence, only one year from now we'll see a MPV Prius reborn.

    You are going by successful car sales standards. The v has hardly been a big success in the US with gas cheap and sales dropping every year since introduction. So maybe there is one and Japan/EU get it and we don't get it?

    We have a Prius+ (7 seat), but no big sales also.
    It would be my next car, no doubt, I am totally against SUV/CUVs like Rav4 or C-HR, they all seem useless.

    In my post, I gave the impression of "Toyota will", but I agree in "maybe".
    For the manufacturer, it is not difficult to make a MPV version, we have been told TNGA philosophy reduces cost. I hope they do make the MPV Prius 2nd gen.

    The new RAVs look great but we just bought a Prius v because of the mpg and space benefit. Very happy with our decision. Not sure why these are not popular. It looks a lot like the popular VW Golf which gets terrible mpg in comparison.

    They're popular with taxis for the combination of mpg, passenger space and luggage capacity. There was a pretty noticeable flood of Prius v taxis when it was launched. There are a few Gen 1.5 v's as well.

    i'm surprised @ the sales numbers considering the population of the taxi cabs around major us cities. i'd be interested in a v2 if it ever gets released. I'll move on from prius if they don't end up making one.

    Popped here just to update this post: I ordered a Prius+ here, next november it will arrive to pair our current (213k km = 132Kmiles) 3Gen :love:

    (couldn't wait anymore :D )

    Congrats!

    I’m not sure if Toyota will produce the 2nd gen. But if it does, it will be competing with the upcoming Volkswagen ID.4X BEV. Here in North America, the RAV4 Hybrid is selling strong, more than the Prius v ever did.

    Why the v for the US when people want the SUV form factor and the RAV4h gets about the same MPG as the v. (Mine gets about 1 MPG more.)

    I guess that you can see the attraction of an SUV. You sit up higher and they are sportier looking. There are a lot of people that are ready to buy an economical SUV like the RAV4.

    Our previous car was a (gen 1) 97 Honda Odyssey. It was not a van like the new and much bigger Odysseys. It was a smaller 4 cylinder station wagon. We had it for 21 years and 200,000 miles. We wanted to replace it with another reliable small wagon. The Prius V was one of the few small wagon choices out there. I was leary of buying it because of the added complication and longevity of the hybrid powertrain. After owning it for a few months and learning more about the operation of it, I am glad that we did. It's a shame that Toyota didn't continue offering them.

    Side Note: My neighbor traded her Ford Windstar van for an Ford Explorer. She bought one with a higher trim package that included 4WD. The 4WD lowered her mileage when a FWD vehicle would probably have been adequate. After she had it for a few months I asked her how she like it. She said that she loved the looks of it and driving it but it got much worse mileage than her Windstar and it didn't have the interior room of her old van. Go figure.

    I cannot see any attraction of an SUV, seating higher gives me less road feel and I just can't find that sportier looking. I've always been a rally fan, and watched off-road and adventure rides, but for my family needs an SUV is something of a vanity/consuming thing and couldn't cope with the job (7 seats).

    As a former road racer and 5 time sports car owner, I loved the feel of those back in the day. But now at 76 and with a back the chiropractor just shakes his head in despair at, there is something to be said for height of entry. Also I appreciate and use the electronic nannies that are available now.

    I had also owned a CRV back when they were smaller and simpler. Frankly, my 3 Honda product experiences were not great successes. And I wouldn't touch the CRV today because of the engine issues (GIO).

    The v was a great car for me. It did exactly what I bought it to do.

    This gives some '19 Rav4h ownership experience insights from the perspective of a former v owner.
