The Lid that covers the Charging Port sounds cheap when it is opened or closed. I'd like to spray Foam behind the plastic of the Lid to stiffen it.

    Has anyone else noticed this?

I wish they would have made it smaller, like the Prius PIP, with just the Charging Port and not the right blank, which was changed to a Charging Port Cap holder as an after-thought. I removed the Cap since I don't use it and it serves no purpose when the Lid is closed.

The "holder" is used in other countries as a super charging port. It is not available here in the US.

I would not remove the cap because the lid is not water tight and it dose not cover over the charge port as the Plug-in does.

I can't personally confirm this, since my P.Prime hasn't arrived yet, but my understanding is that the cap does serve an important waterproofing function. The door, I gather, unlike the original PiP, does not stop water.

My cap does a great job of holding the snow in the charge port for me just where I really want it :D. But yes it does seal the port a bit in the rain. I do wish they had put the same charging interface on the US model as the Japan model but with a DC fast charging port. But I knew what it had when I bought it so it is my own fault for not holding out and refusing the buy until they did. The cover sounds like a gas cover to me, and those have been around for so long now and never really see an issue with them that I just dont' stress it, maybe it is a little hollow sounding but it is good enough.

The Prime Charging Port Lid protects the port as well as the Prius PIP Lid does. The Cap is not needed.
If it's raining or snowing, when you pull the charging plug from the port, rain or snow does not affect the port. Port power is off.
Putting a Cap over the port will trap the rain or snow, which is worse than leaving the port open.

The Cap was an afterthought, because they didn't want to completely redesign the port for the US market, that doesn't use the right port as they do in other countries.

I also removed the cap. Who in Toyota thinks these crazy ideas?

What do you expect? "Will..."? They can't predict the future.

What they're saying is that it isn't very waterproof without the cap, and it's much more waterproof with it.

I understand Lee but the cap could have been given a lot more thought.

it's hard being told by someone who doesn't even own one that you're always wrong.

To be fair, I have not had that problem, only truly inquisitive types asking about my mpg and range.
