I do. You need a 3.5 meters power cable. Use the 12V socket at the back seat. Run the wire through the floor and tuck it inside the seams around the windshield. I use the front seat 12V port for cellphone charging.

Last week a cop pulled over the car for "not stopping in front of a stop sign". Good see u on court. Let's see how you face the video stream. Thinking I can't defend myself? Think twice.

    Glad you have that footage!

BTW which cam do you have? i have a A119 on order.

Can you take a photo of your set up when you have a chance? thinking of having the cam on the left side of the mirror.

Did you pull off the paneling off around the windshield in order to hide the wiring?

Mine plug into the Prime ODB for power. However in my 2014 prius dashcam, I have to tap a circuit from the fuse box below the steering for older dashcam.

I have two WheelWitness dash cams, one for the front and one for the rear, I haven't installed them yet (was on my 2015 PIP) Was concerned about dash cam blocking whatever is behind the rear view mirror. No problem with rear dash cam because the lower window is simular to the PIP's lower window. I am open to any suggestions on the installation of the front dash cam tho.

Seems to me I've read somewhere in the manual that at least for the Advanced model the forward facing camera is recording in case of an accident. I don't know how you can get to it however.

I just installed a Viofo a119 last night in the center of the windshield (to the right of the built-in camera and directly under the humidity sensor). For now I went with the fast and dirty install, so the USB cable simply runs straight down the dash and under the passenger seat to the rear of the arm rest where the 2nd 12v port is located. Eventually I'll get around to routing the cable in a less conspicuous way...

I want to wire in a dashcam, but am not sure how to route the wires. On my old car it was simple to run a wire down the side of the windshield inside the otherwise-empty A pillar. I haven't poked around there on the Prime, since I'm not familiar with curtain airbags. Is there switched 12V somewhere inside the overhead light assembly? I wish there wasn't so much blocked area around the rearview mirror, I can't place the cam where I'd like.

Here's how I routed the 15 ft. USB cable for this basic Aukey dash cam:

    Pushed up into the headliner
    IMG_2242.JPG

Out and around the A pillar above the airbag panel, and into the inner rubber moulding of the door frame
    IMG_2244.JPG

Kept going down the front of the door frame and back into the cabin at the bottom of the glove compartment
    IMG_2246.JPG

Around the back of the passenger footwell through a few loops behind the glove compartment
    IMG_2247.JPG

Pushed the cable between the plastic trim and the center tunnel. You can see a short segment of cable showing between the front segment and where the wireless charging pad begins
    IMG_2248.JPG

Then up next to the passenger seat and into a dual USB port 12V adapter
    IMG_2249.JPG

If you have a slightly longer cable, it could keep going further back to the rear 12V outlet like EspressoFueled did.

Thank you for posting the detailed photo set. It's this one in particular I'm wondering about, what are the implications of running the wire around the A pillar this way, in case of a curtain airbag deployment. I understand the airbag extends to either side of that point (?)

For example, the "small overlap front" airbag deployment photo at the IIHS website: Vehicle details

Thanks for those helpful crash photos. I didn't realize the curtain deployed above that seam too. I'll try routing the cable further down the side of the windshield before looping around the base of the A pillar instead.

It's a tight fit but there's some room between the A pillar and windshield to hold the cable in place, and then between base and dash before going into the door frame as before.

It is exactly the way I did mine. The cable needs to be very long.

I have a $75 Mobius camera in my Gen 3. Small size, loop recording, and auto-on means that I don't pay attention to it, until I occasionally lean over to check the rear LED to ensure it is recording. Does get warm though.
Do mount it with a camra-type mount so that you can swivel it when necessary to record a tailgater, side-swiper, or policeman.

i Bought One Of These On Impulse. I Dont Know Anything About electronics, but I Am Hoping To tap Into The Map Light Power.

Anyone Know How I Can Disengage The Map Light Cover To Expose The Circuit?

Also, Am I Going To Seriously Fry The Circuits By Doing This?

I use a Mobius as a 'dash-cam' on my bike, I believe if you're keeping it plugged into USB non-stop they recommend you swap out the LiPo battery for a pair of big capacitors - search on the Mobius Actioncam site (or Amazon) for "mobius super capacitor battery replacement"

(which shouldn't be hard, I replaced my LiPo with a new, slightly higher-capacity one easily a year or so ago)
