Prime sales are still supply constrained and it has not yet fully rolled out to 50 states, but continues to pull solid numbers. "Toyota has briefly crested ~1,000 units in stock, but has had difficulty staying above the figure so far..."

We would be #1 if they could get more here.

Wish we could get the average stay on dealer lot or 'days of inventory.'

I can only see the number stays the same. The popularity test only starts when the supply can keep up. As soon as we can constantly see prime in the dealer's lot, we will know exactly how popular prime is among all vehicles.

i wonder if supply will remain constricted? not a bad strategy.

I think the Volt's first because the bigger battery and plug in capability is less of an afterthought. I'm not saying the Prime's plug in is an afterthought, but just more so than the Volt.

My guess is that deeper discounts off MSRP on the Volt explain a lot of the sales volume. The Prime continues to maintain the $1,000 manufacturer incentive into March, but according to KBB the "fair purchase price" of the Volt LT is currently around $3,000 off MSRP (Kelley Blue Book). Toyota could probably discount the Prime further once up to production capacity if they want to claim the plug-in sales crown.

The current generation Volt has been out long enough that it has been a 50 state vehicle for some time and production capacity should have caught up to demand many months ago. Guessing it will take the Prime 2-3 more months to hit both of these targets.

    One word. supply.

I just checked. There are now 2 primes within 100 miles of me. (YUGE progress!!!) Meanwhile, there are well over 100 Volts within 50 miles. when there are 100 Primes within 50 miles, then we can meaningfully compare sales.

I have 152 new Primes within 100 miles of me and 1 used Advanced Prime with 1400 miles. $4500 off new MSRP.

It just shows that their priority is California, but they should definitely move some of these to the South, Midwest, East, etc.

BTW, I think it's concentrated in SoCal because I searched within 100 miles of San Francisco and only 36 Primes turned up.

Not fair as the PiP was CARB state. @john1701a got his going out of state. But I did too.

    Here's how PiP got started.
PiP had a fairly high initial price in CA (ask bisco) and sales fell off, followed by bargain discount prices on the East Coast in the Fall of 2012, which got the ball rolling. For Prime, we probably have a new dynamic whereas Toyota needs to sell cars in CA for CARB ZEV credits, and probably for 2012 PiP, maybe they sent too many to East Coast, not knowing demand was going to be as CA-centric as it has turned out to be..

    Probably demo car.

    Prime's credit is only $4,500. CA rebate is $1,500. So it's $1,500.
