This is interesting - a non-EV/PHEV car that is special order except in Quebec. QC does buy the bulk of the subcompact cars in Canada.

Is it actually Toyota up there, or the Mazda Yaris iA we get in the US?

Well it's the Mazda2/Yaris iA but we just call it the Toyota Yaris (no iA nonsense).

It's just interesting to see that it'll only be stocked in one province. Just like the Prius Liftback Touring and Technology trim levels will be stocked in only 3 cities (but available for order elsewhere).

Toyota must think they won't sell well outside those locations, and is just cutting the loss of shipping them everywhere.

I guess so. It's built in Mexico, right?

I thought Canada still had the Matrix. Is this car a replacement?

    Correct.

The Yaris is a size class below the Corolla/Matrix.

Canada was more likely to get a hatch or wagon version than in the US. I looked at the Scion xA because that was how we finally got the Echo hatchback. The Scion iM is the Auris wagon, and it is now the Corolla iM in the US. Guess it will be the Corolla wagon in Canada.

Kinda evidenced by the 4 lug nut configuration. It's funny, Accords used to be 4 lug too. Maybe they were a bit lighter. I'd suspect mainly it's regulations changing over the years.

The Scion/Corolla iM is not an Auris wagon, it's an Auris hatch.

It's the Corolla iM in Canada (but the Yaris is just the Yaris, not Yaris iA as it is in the U.S.)
