Spring is coming, maybe. Lawn mower, weedeater time.

I am looking at my sorry CARB gasoline cans and don't want to deal with them this season. I have a Midwest can and a No-Spill can.

Midwest is totally worthless and the No-Spill works O.K., except, as I have read other places, the cap is near impossible to thread on without crossthreading it. When I do manage to get it on correctly, it works fine. As I said, I have read a number of comments about the No-Spill can that say the same thing.

I don't want any metal cans, such as the Eagle. Any suggestions -- First pix is the Midwest, second, the No-Spill.

As I understand it, the Gen 2 Prius can take 3 gallons at one time (before you turn it on again) to register that you have added gas.
If you had at least a 1.5 gallon can you would need two trips. a 3 gallon can would weigh about 30 pounds which may be heavy for a long distance. I hope you never need gas in a can, but I can't help planning for it.

Use fuel stabilizer in your gas cans. Or, if two-cycle, use Stihl mix oil, it has gasoline stabilizer already added.

I don't use my gas cans for my cars, btw. Just the lawn mower and the weedeater.

That gas can you are touting. Is it as good as it looks?

In other words, is it basically the same as a can I could have purchased in 1999? Just a can, a cap and a spout that slides through the cap?

No spring operated closures or anything? In other words, is it a can that really works?

The only not working feature is triangular hole on middle so it mounts on the outside of a SUV. Prius owners would care about wind resistance

Don't care about carrying it around, only care about it being useful at home. Again, if it mimics my old-school cans, which need no special prayers or chants before pouring, I'm in.

Blitz used to make the best cans but they went out of business around 2012 due to lawsuits, mainly folks using gaso unsafely and then suing Blitz for the fires. So we are in the post-Blitz gaso can period, and it's hard to find a can I like. I still use a Blitz. The newer cans are CARB compliant, which dictates a complex nozzle design and the plastic has some treatment to minimize permeation through the plastic.

The complex nozzle is what I am trying to avoid -- along with complex, or lack of, venting.

The Midwest cans mentioned earlier are extremely poorly designed. My favorite of the moment is the Tuff Jug with a ripper cap and a small tank adapter. Recommended by the local gas station guys. But, I may be looking at Commander Palmer's recommendation.

So, Jimbo, you are saying i can replace the nozzles on my Midwest cans with the ones on Amazon and they will fit and work fine?

Hmmm....Of course, I can get the Midwest can for $7 and the replacement nozzle on Amazon is $15. :ROFLMAO:

"The black cap has fine threads and generally fits the old Rubbermaid, Briggs and Stratton, Essence and Gott cans; the yellow cap has coarse threads and fits the Blitz, Scepter, and Plastic Eagle; You will need an adaptor to make this product work on old Chilton cans, orange Gott cans, metal cans, or Jerry cans."

They do not mention MidWest cans.

Just my two pennyworth here, but my lawnmower fuel is stored for years in a one gallon poly-can with no additives and has never gone off on me.

Is ethanol mandated there? That will draw more moisture in over time.

I think it is at 10%, but expect @kithmo or @raspy will correct me if I'm wrong. And the climate in Cornwall is rather humid.

That's a nice can, but way more than I'd want to pay for just a gas can for the garage. I have a Midwest can like the one @Stevewoods showed and a Blitz that's about as bad. (I bought the Blitz about 1-1/2 years ago, so maybe they are back in business, but without a logical nozzle.) I gave up on those miserable nozzles. I just pour it out without a nozzle and use a funnel. It spills a whole lot less that trying to hold and tip five gallons of gas with one hand while fighting the spring loaded nozzle with the other.

I see that Amazon doe sell quite a few replacement nozzles that actually look functional. Amazon.com: blitz gas cans

It's mainly E5 which is 5% over here although suppliers have been allowed to sell E10 (10%) since sometime last year IIRC, but AFAIK very few, if any, have yet.
The Gen 4 online owners manual says the maximum you can use is E10 otherwise damage to the fuel system will occur.

The only can I have with a spring powered nozzle doesn't have a button. Stick the nozzle into the lawnmower tank, and press down is all that is required.
Blitz abandoned the gas can business, but someone could have acquired the name since then.
You also might have slightly higher octane regular, or just better gasoline. The isn't a single gasoline molecule. Naphtha is the main the component, but it also isn't a single compound, and comes in a range of weights. Then other petroleum products are mixed in, and that will vary by region and refinery.

Geez I need new glasses...I was going to say what's ES but it's E5. And I knew that answer too. Could be E0 in Premium I think, except USA.. I usually do not see the water separation problem in the can (since you cannot see thru it). I see it in the lawn mower itself. When it won't start now I pretty much know the answer is water in the carburetor cup and I go thru a messy clean-up of the gaso tank and carburetor cup, about once a year lately.
