What have you done to your c today?

Yesterday I added some vynil pinstriping and plasti-dipped the hood emblem. 1st time doing either, I'm happy with how it looks… but I also know I'll redo it sometime soon. Plus, I want to plasti-dip the rest of the emblems.

 

FYI... I'm running 205/40/17's and it's fine when I'm alone, but I get intermittent scrapes on big bumps w/ passengers. But I also dropped the back 3". You'd probably be ok at stock height except for really big bumps, but your speedo is going to be off a tad. Mine is right on with the 40's.

 

hmm, 205/35? thats over 5% different than stock, not only would that change your speedo, odo and mpg figures significantly, but your giving up a lot of road comfort there.

or do you mean you're running 18s? that would make more sense

 

I edited my previous post (I mis-spoke). I knew that I'd calculated 45's wouldn't work on my car... but mine are actually 205/40/17's (not 35's - I had 35's on my Corvette and mixed up the numbers here).

I've been numbering my mod versions (informally) since I started tweaking it. I'm at version 2.2 now. I just ordered the stuff that will take me to my version 3.2 or maybe 3.3. Once I get all of that thrown on I'm going to finally post some pics. I still feel like mine looks a little too stock to be showing it off (but it certainly handles like a freaking go-cart now!).

FYI, I just got about 36k miles on the first set of 205/40's. The tire guy was impressed. He said rarely do performance tires like that get so much wear (and I really actually could have put another 5k on them with what was left). He also said that typically lowering tears them up pretty quickly (I did have some cupping, probably due to the short throw on the rear suspension and rarely having passengers - and I didn't rotate for about the last 12k of their lifetime..my bad)... but if you drive like I do it sounds like you might be able to look forward to some good long wear on those performance tires. I run them at 45psi cold (they're rated to 52psi). The tire monitor hates it (light is ALWAYS on), but I think that contributed to their long life.

 

Has anybody looked into installing a cold-air filter system? I was looking at my filter box today and it's got sensors that I am guessing we can't just disregard by removing the old filter box (probably at least temperature and vacuum - some info that the ECM could definitely make good use of IMO). Thoughts?? I guess I could maybe start fabbing a solution to get the sensors into the new breather, but I'm wondering if anybody has some real world experience with a mod like that.

 

ah that makes a whole lot more sense now I was originally looking for a 40 series tire too, but LRR options are pretty limited so i stepped up to 45s.

36k on a set of street tires, performance or otherwise, lowered or otherwise, is pretty common... especially on front wheel drive econoboxes like ours

 

I've seen a few guys on here running the injen CAI. I think HKS makes one too, unless its just their signature mushroom filter. most of the guys on here will tell you that warm air fares better for our hybrid drivetrain, but i think its sort of splitting hairs imo. your car, your money, your enjoyment. go for it

 

good stuff. don't take this the wrong way, but im genuinely curious why people pinstripe their cars? I always thought it was something used car dealers did to emphasize straight body work or something along those lines. mind you i do graphics/vinyl installations for a living (probably will post one of the prius soon) so i'm not opposed to doing it, i just wonder why...

 

For me it was a low cost, easy way to customize/personalize my car in a non-permanent way (ツ) It's just like applying decals IMO.

Hks intake is the same as the blitz it's just the L pipe that hooks straight into the stock intake box. The intake you want to get that's popular in Japan is the "top fuel intake" from what my friend in Japan told me. It's loud but it gives more performance than any other intake for our car.

 

oo top fuel makes a lot of nice parts for other cars i had in the past...

 

Have a link by chance? I tried a quick google search but turned up empty. I'm not a fan of loud, but I'd gladly consider extra performance.

 

where did you get the muffler tip? I really like that. Can you post a link?

1. I installed a backup camera, connected to the factory head unit.
The wiring still needs to be fished through the hatch. It is currently routed around the rear window.
So far it was $2-400 cheaper than quoted by the local car audio shops.
The bad news: I unfortunately slipped and scratched the hell out of the paint on the hatch. I also managed to break one of the license plate light holders. It's gorilla-taped back together, and not visible unless you lift the hatch and look closely, so I'm not too worried about it.

2. I removed the license plate frames. The dealer was ok, but if they want me to drive around advertising for them, they need to pay me or cut another grand off the price of the car.

Yesterday's mods:
1. I had the windows tinted. 35% VLT sides and rear. I'd rather have more, but the car's red. I don't need to add any more visible invitations to pull me over.

2. Replaced the map lights and trunk lights with LEDs.

3. I've equipped the car with a couple of LED flashlights and a solar phone charger in the glovebox (for the occasional camping trip) and a jump charger / USB power pack in the trunk. Not exactly a mod, but good things to keep handy.
