    Hey,

    I have a 2004 prius i bought recently with 164000miles on it.and i had p1121 , p1116 and p2195 for O2 sensor signal stuck lean bank1 sensor1.

today i changed the spark plugs and PCV value and also i cleaned the throttle body, before done these i got maxium about 35 mpg after i changed them today its jumped to 50mpg. I was very happy and i drove like 12 miles to test after change them, but while i was changing them i found a broken hose and its appiers to be broken for a while.

but i couldn't find the other side of hose. I'm attaching pictures to show which hose it is with this post.

few minitues ago i went back to car and start and i got check engine light came and i checked the codes. nothing new just those 3 codes i had before. but when i open hood i can see smoke comming some where right side of the engine.i couldn't find exact place. when i'm inside the car i can smell like exhaust gas inside. almost give me a headache.

when engine is running smoke appier from the engine and as soon as engine stop smoke dissapire and i can hear a like a vacume sound form a hose for a 1 second.

I'm sorry for my poor english. could some one please help me with this.

(when i tight spark plugs i did not use a torque wrench i tight by hand hope it tight enought.)

This is the broken Hose I found. its gose in to a round tank like thing.

Our 2005 does not have a hose, but a vented cap where the hose connects in your lower photo.

It looks to be nothing more than the vent for the "transmission" (they don't really have a traditional transmission tho). Therefore, I would gently loop it downward so it makes an upside-down and gentle U, just to keep dirt and water out.

I would have to guess that hose is involved in the evaporative emissions control system. You might check for a hose routing diagram label stuck on the underside of the hood. The US requires such labels; I don't know whether Canada does.

If you can't find the label there, or it isn't detailed enough, the repair manual at techinfo.toyota.com would be where to check next.

Like I posted above, ours has no hose at all at that connection on the "transmission", just a small rubberish vented cap. So its not an emissions part.

Your car has at least two problems:

    1. The engine coolant system needs attention. The first two DTC you listed indicate that the engine coolant valve is not functioning. One possibility is that if air is in the system, that will cause the DTC to be logged. Alternatively the valve really might have failed.
    2. Another problem is the lean fuel/air mixture reported by DTC 2195. Look for a loose PCV hose, a loose engine oil cap, or oil dipstick. Inspect the O-ring seals for the oil cap and the dipstick to make sure they are sound.
    3. Regarding the photos you posted, I cannot tell what is the problem. How about posting at least three more photos:
    - one which shows the end of the hose which is not attached to anything
    - one which shows the canister (or round tank-like thing) you are referring to
    - one which shows the engine producing smoke.
    4. Is this smoking a new issue or did that occur prior to the work you did? If a new issue, look again for a loose PCV hose.
    5. What is the condition of the engine air filter? Did you remove the filter and look at the bottom of it?

smoke is a new issue i did not see it before. I'll post the photos first thing tomorrow morning.
Engine filter is Brand new i put it like 1 month ago. i'll check the PCV value again and see if its not tight enough.

Why do you think cabin smell like exhaust smoke, (not when i'm drying just in the pakring lot.(out door parking))

Is it possible that there is a hole in the exhaust system? This is a safety issue and needs to be immediately addressed.

I got few 2 photos which end of the hose and one other to find where hose is connected to. but If this not clear enough i'll get some in the morning with sunlight. I didn't see any smoke this time.maybe perhaps its night. I'll check in the morning.

The ORANGE "hose" is not a hose at all, but a covering for ELECTRICAL CABLING that is orange in to identify a High Voltage circuit. It does connect to the "transmission".

The black hose, the one you think is broken, is nothing more than a vent for the "transmission". Looking at your photos and video, it appears the vehicle was in an accident and most likely the body shop lost the vented cap that fits on the transmission cover (where the black hose connects with the clamp on your car) and simply used a hose instead of the correct part.

Are you still having a problem with hydrocarbon odors entering the passenger cabin? If so, check the PCV hoses, since you had replaced the PCV valve.
Replace any rusted or broken fasteners like the clamp holding the air inlet hose on the passenger side of the air cleaner housing. This is especially important with the clamp that holds the bottom of the air cleaner housing to the throttle body. That connection must be air-tight as the mass air flow sensor is upstream.

i notice that hydrocabon kind of odor (or some kind of smell) only if i run heat in the cabin. if no heat fans are running its smell nothing whats is the relation between heat and that odors i wonder. I thiought i had really big improment over the millage after changing the spark plugs . but after few days its same as used to be now. i get like 32mpg -6C outside temperature and 32psi tire presure.

    1. I use 44/42 psi inflation front/rear. 32 psi is way too low.

    2. In very cold ambient weather you should expect worsened fuel economy especially if you are driving short distances.

    3. Perhaps you are smelling the odor produced by the PTC electric heaters which supplement cabin heat from the engine?

the smell might be a dirty/moldy cabin filter, its located behind the glove compartment , videos on youtube on how to change it.
as others have said the orange cable is high voltage don't go near them, the humming sound is most likely the inverter cooling pump, its on when ever the car is on.

    1. when i put winter tires i told the guy to put 42 psi and he said no can do. he said tire would blow. thats why i'm running 32.how can i check how much presure tire can handel i wonder.

    2. yes i only drive like 3 Km one way each day to work. so not much to even engine warm up.

    3. It must be that "PTC electric Heaters" so i just smell it today few min ago when i'm going to shop. and i turn off the heater and its gone. any solution ?

I see. haha I'm not gonna touch it. I check the cabin filter when i changed my engine oil. its clean white. no durt or mold seems to be there. so i think must be some thing else.

Easiest way is to look at the maximum PSI (pounds per square inch) listed on the sidewall.

Most modern tires are rated above 40 psi, some go over 50 psi.

A higher PSI can decrease the rolling resistance, but might also provide a smaller contact patch and possibly uneven wear depending how high you go (this is relative to the tire design).

the air filter under the hood is NOT the cabin filter for the air conditioner you have to remove the glove box to get the cabin filter out.
