Why 'did' you chose 'the' Premium over the Plus?

Just be aware that Canada will only have two trim levels - Base and Technology. Based on the press release, it appears to be the equivalent of Plus and Advanced.

In one respect, it makes sense to minimize repair parts inventory, just the larger screen in inventory and avoiding the unique Plus parts.

The one thing I like about our BMW i3-REx that I haven't see for the Prime, yet, is the ability to monitor charging, the SOC. Today I use a stop watch App to let me know if Plus charging is complete. The BMW App enables pre-conditioning so the cabin can cool or heat before I walk to the car.

If a thief wants it, they will take it. All we can do is implement measures to keep normally honest people honest. IMHO....

I follow what you're saying here. We're pretty much on the "same page." Bla-bla indeed.
Seems to me (just my opinion) the extras for the Premium and Advanced give the salesmen some bargaining room to haggle.
Car software doesn't mean much to me, Mr. Old School Driver who still likes to look over my shoulder when passing. (Imagine that, I actually swing around in my seat, even tho' it hurts my aching neck!) I don't want to depend on software to tell me it's safe or not to pass. But....Toyota and others have made such backward-glances almost impossible, what with the tiny rear windows and the huge pillars on either side. I feel like I'm inside a cave.
And as I pointed out in a later post, only the Plus offers a CD-player.

Just curious, why (SofTex?) leather over fabric? Cooler on summer days? Easier to clean? Or just like the feel?

A CD player? OH yeah! That's a playback device for those shiny round things we used to buy pre-recorded music on and store in clunky zippered cases before Streaming music apps like Spotify and iTunes. I remember.... :) :)

My Advanced has that. It even sends me texts and e-mails telling me when it starts charging and when it's done as well as reminds me to go out and plug it in if I forget... Plus a whole bunch other stuff among which is cabin HVAC conditioning so it's toasty or cool (as the situation demands) before I enter.

That pretty much sums up my wife's view on the matter too, but both of us despise soft-tex so we bought the + trim.

I presume you mean remotely. The dash has a 3 light display that gives charging status info.

Softex is longer lasting...less heat on day and feel the same as Napa thick leather....
And with Advanced you will have push notifications when is full charge and also you can see SOC

I don't doubt it has advantages and that some people just plain like it. I do wonder though how many people dislike it enough like me and my wife to make the car a no - go purchase wise.

Honestly, if I could make a wish I would ask Toyota to copy Subaru aesthetics. They come up with very attractive exterior paint colors and I am a huge fan of their interior design and material choices.

If you coming from High luxury car's and have done all work required couple times a month to the best leathers out there (My is BMW M 760) it will wear you out to keep in pristine condition....vs Softex....I do agree with you on interior...Japanese and American car's have no heritage for inside ergonomics and design....each generation they are all over the board....Prime is first car that try to follow this trend.....

    Plus has this.

Since I plug in at night and am ready to go in the morning, the "notification" is not relevant for me. If I plug in out in the field, the ChargePoint system lets me know the status of my charge...without using the less than useless EnTune software.

I don't use the climate prep, I plug in at night also. Not necessary if kept in the garage. And I agree about the En Tune software.

It does and I've just been notified by mine that it is fully charged and has a range of over 32 miles.

And Entune features I use work fine. Hate Facebook; never use it. Wish I could have Google search. Table thingy and stock market are useless. And of course Android Auto would be cool. I would REALLY like to be able to run DOSBOX Free; now that would be sensational! And why not have Netflix on that big screen; they could disable it while car in motion. When are they going to offer an integral radar detector, and the ability to easily incorporate your portable GPS unit? Oh the fun we'll have! And I want an electrical induction system to charge/power my car while I drive on solar powered freeway lanes....

It has plummeted from over 35 miles of range down to 32 miles because of my crazy 75 to 90mph run for about 8 miles. That car does have some good poop!

    Neighbor, Pleeeeease! Subaru what!!!??
My Advanced knocks the living you know what, out of ANY Subaru. My son's friend had (yes had: too expensive to own) WRX. That car could haul some serious cargo; screaming fast! Beat almost anything out there, but esthetics; no way Jose! Them cars is just plain UGLY!

I think all of the Prime packages are a good value, and at least there is some logic to them. Unlike Gen 3 packages which were ridiculous and are what kept me from getting a Gen 3 because each package, low to high, had at least one major annoying missing item. That and the stratospheric price required to get DRCC, to get that in Gen 3 you had to buy everything else including a built-in dishwasher.

For me personally, it seems that Plus would have several advantages:

    I prefer cloth to SofTex®
I prefer 7" to 11", both for aesthetics and functionality
I actually prefer manual seats. I have driven many a rental car with power seats and for me it's just not a big deal. Also I utilize underseat storage for the sunshade, small umbrella, small fire extinguisher, flashlight, bottle of water, etc. nice to have those items handy yet out of the way. Power seats really kills underseat storage. Especially since Prime seems to have so little cabin storage. Also I often take power naps in the car, 10-15 minutes, and with manual seats you can go all the way back in an instant, and forward again, and without putting strain on any motors.

All of the other stuff I wouldn't miss, except for three-door smart key which I have on my 2006 Gen 2 and really like.

Hmm? The base model will have the 7" LCD screen. It's the same one as in the Prius so there are parts anyway. If anything, it's harder for those with the 11.6" screen since it's unique to that one trim level and does not share it with any other Toyota.

I'm guessing it's a combination of all of the above. It's a synthetic material so Toyota was able to imbue it with some thermal resistant properties such that it's not as cold in the winter and not as warm in the summer. The SofTex-wrapped steering wheel is definitely warmer to the touch in the winter than my leather-wrapped steering wheel in the Gen 3 (and this was only at temps near freezing). Because it is essentially plastic, it doesn't absorb anything so you don't have to worry about spills or getting into the car with a wet jacket.

At this point, I think it's a wash whether you take cloth or Softex. It's more of other features.

I think the Premium is the sweet spot for the balance of features vs. price but again, if you see no value is any of the items that the Premium has to offer, then stick with the Plus. You don't need anyone else to convince you otherwise :)

To be fair, I think the 'cloth' is synthetic too, but it does look and feel as plastic-ty -- to me anyway.
