When I turn my car off I always see this question "Can you use air conditioner while charging? or something like that. It also gives you a yes or no option. So, one time I selected "no" and the next time "yes". It then shows my driving score. Does yours do this? Is this just a random question the car asks or does my answer change some setting?

    Thanks in advance,

I just noticed my did the same and I selected yes. I think the question was for using the air conditioning to cool the battery while it is plugged in. I assume it is to help the battery life and I selected yes because of that.

For the battery's sake, you want to select yes.

Will this be asked then every time I turn off the car and the battery is low? I don't remember if I selected no or yes first! :)

After I selected yes, I haven't seen it again.

Hello all - I just bought a Prius Prime Advanced, and I love it already. I see the same message when I shut my prime off about allowing the car to use the A/C during charging. I want to always allow this, but, unlike you, it keeps popping up. Is there a way to set it to always use the A/C? I'm concerned that I will miss the message sometimes and it will charge without the A/C. Thanks

After making that post, I have seen the message come up again and again. Not sure if you can permanently keep the setting to keep turning on everytime it needs to. I use a scanning tool for adjustments and don't see it there either.

Definitely let the A/C do the job, you want to keep the battery in its happy place.

Okay, thanks for letting me know that. Perhaps it's not possible to change the default? What did you mean when you said you use a scanning tool for adjustments? What is a scanning tool, and what does it do? Thanks!

A scanning tool is used to used to look up faulty codes if an engine light comes on. Certain scanning tools like I have can change settings on the car like changing the reverse beep and such.

Hi Dalcon95 - Which scanning tool do you use, and does it require a paid subscription? Thanks

Does that Carista allow you to program in another electronic key? Or is there some other way to do it other than paying the dealership to do it? Thanks!

That would be something you would have to take to the dealer for.

Does anyone know if this situation (saying “yes”) means a Level 2 public EVSE will be notably less efficient at charging the traction battery? I initiated a session yesterday in quite warm conditions after having driven the car over an hour. The charger put in nearly 1kWh of electricity according to my app for that network, the A/C was on, and after 37 minutes (had to leave earlier than expected) I went from 0 to 2% (I was expecting at least 8-9%). I’m trying to determine if this is normal or if the EVSE was not working properly. To be fair, the car interior was nice and cool.

If the battery is hot, it won't charge the battery until it gets it to a cooler temperature, and it uses the EVSE power to run the A/C to cool the car and the battery. It probably didn't start charging for most or all of the time you were there.

Normal 208V charging is almost 1% per minute. Normal 240V charging is 1% per minute.

I just experienced this last week. It was 100 degrees and I optioned to use AC to cool the traction battery. I was parked and charging on an L2, for 45 minutes and only got 4% increase SoC. This would normally get me to at least 30% SoC. The car interior was as cool as the building that I just left.
