I have a 2006 Prius with 151,000. I bought it used. I don't think the "problem" I'm about to describe is unique to a Prius, because I've felt it on other cars I have owned... but lately when I hit a pot hole or other obstructions in the road, the Prius really gives a THUMP - and it feels like the car hits that hole extra hard... ya know, the kind where you teeth almost come out of your head... now, I'm not taking huge pot holes that swallow the front tire... it could be something very small - but for some reason, you really feel it now... would replacing the shocks or struts renew the ride? Or what that be springs or something else?

Not sure I'm in right place. If not I'm sorry.
Have 2006 Prius - 190k miles. Toyota dealer service says I need struts all around. Replacement cost $3,000+. Not sure I trust assessment and if true the expense seems exorbitant.
Live in Massachusetts along I495 near Hudson, Marloboro, Bolton, Acton.
Any suggestions for reliable alternatives to the dealer service within 25 or 30 miles appreciated. Thanks, Robert

You can always have them checked out by a hybrid friendly shop or a reputable tire shop that also works on struts. We have a local tire chain in our area called Les Schwab that works on tires, brakes, batteries, and shocks. They've quoted me a better pricing than the dealership for brakes and shocks. I've had a great experience at one of their locations with replacing my rear brakes. The previous owner of my Prius used to live in New Hampshire. He has taken the car to VIP Tires & Service for new tires, alignment, and oil changes. Maybe have them check out your struts and get a quote? I'm not sure if they are good or not. Good luck!
