How about it? Anybody ready to put their Prime under the knife?

Go to a specialist! There are specialist firms, look for the name Webasto (I don't know if that type if roof is still available), but back when I live in the UK there were firms specialized in fitting sun roofs, converting to convertibles (Crayford?) The big problem is compromising the integrity of the monocoque construction when cutting holes or removing large chunks!

    No.

If you want a moonroof, look at a new, 2017 Prius Level three which has a small MPG penalty compared to the Level Two ECO. That MPG penalty led to buying a BMW i3-REx and later, a Prius Prime Plus.

As stated, check with a specialist, but it likely won't be a good idea. Chances are high that a sun roof would require cutting through structural beams necessary for crash safety. The less risky aspect is that an openable moon roof will leak; factory options have rain gutters to keep the water out of the cabin.

Is this just for the Prime? Others have done this other Prius without compromising the integrity of the car.

How do you know it didn't compromise the integrity of the car?

Good point. In other words, many others have been enjoying without problems.

I could cut out a new window in my dining room wall, after deciding that the stud that was there isn't really needed, so no need to install a header. Even though I may be enjoying my new view for say three years without any problems, that isn't proof that I haven't compromised the structural integrity of my house.

Just be careful when cornering in a rather aggressive manner! or when stopping suddenly! (you know it makes sense!)

if you drove like me, you could cut the whole roof off. but it's hard to drive with an umbrella.

Do you tend to corner & stop aggressively with your house or did you reply to the wrong posting?

    Wait what? Pictures!

Personally, I would never do something like this, just too many negative ramifications. But the deed is done, so lessee. :)

If you care to check, you will find that I said nothing about houses in my post!
