When I turn on my car and sit parked and play with the navigation it turns off randomly after a minute. How can I disable that?

It's not when you open the door that it turns off?
I heard people using the Parking Break with the car in Drive to work on stuff in the vehicle.

    you can't.
you have to put it in ready to keep it on. this is a safety feature to prevent your running down the 12v battery when using the accessory position.
the hybrid battery keeps the 12v charged, and the engine keeps the hybrid battery charged.
foot on brake, press power button once.

OK, so let me make sure I follow when you're observing this happening: You're saying you drove the car, stopped it, hit the Park button, diddle with the nav system, and then a minute-ish after you hit the Park button, it shuts down the display? Is that the scenario?

I'm having the same issue. Trying to learn everything about the car. I have gone into my garage with the car either plugged in or not plugged in turn the car what I consider into accessory mode by not putting my foot on the brake and hitting the start button twice. This allows for the windows to go up and down and other functions to happen. This is what I did in my 2010 Prius. Doing that in the prime, after about a minute the car shuts down.

It turns off in Accessory mode to try & protect the 12 Volt battery. In Accessory mode, the 12 Volt battery is not charged. It sounds like you should be using Ready mode. In Ready mode, the inverter can charge the 12 volt battery and, if needed, the engine can start to replenish charge,
    From the Prime Owners manual:
    upload_2017-4-10_8-36-0.png

tl:dr Use READY mode, not Accessory mode.

Note that the manual says 20 minutes for accessory mode and an hour in ON mode, but users are reporting a minute in ON mode. In other words, something is wrong.

does not make since, it turns on in just a min.

if i don't put my foot on the break and push the start button one time the radio will come one but will not be able to run the fan and or take the windows down or up. my 2010 operated this way. I am guessing that this one is different, just need to figure it out.

Demonstrate this behavior to your dealer and let them fix it. It shouldn't turn off after only 1 minute.

I've never actually timed it, but my Advanced shuts down after a few minutes. But nothing approaching 20 minutes.

I noticed this on my Advanced also. Time is well short of 20 min.

    Same happens with my Advance.

But honestly, just put your car into "Ready" mode. It prevents your car battery (not the hybrid battery) from dying...

Just to make sure I follow these modes, I gather that Ready mode is what you get when you hit the power button with the brake on, and Accessory mode is what you get when you hit the power button without also hitting the brake pedal?

I also see mention in this thread of hitting the power button twice with the brake on?

Sorry, I searched the manual for "ready mode" and didn't find any occurrences of that phrase. Not surprisingly, searching for "ready" got lots of irrelevant hits.

The modes are the same as an "old fashioned" ignition switch which has OFF, ACC and ON, just different how you get there. With your foot off the brake pedal, one press for accessory mode (radio, etc.) another press for ON (power windows, etc) . Press again and you are back to off. With foot on the brake, pressing the power switch once in any of the three modes will go directly to READY (which I think of as "Ready to Rumble")

In a traditional car, ON is either "Ignition On, engine off" or "Ignition On, engine running", which you determine mainly by using your ears, or maybe the RPM gauge if you had one. Same concept in the Prius except since the engine isn't running all the time the READY light tells you whether the system is in operating mode.

Page 324 for READY light and page 326 for the "Non-READY" power switch modes

OK, good. I'd previously noticed, on my Gen-2, that pressing the power button twice without the brake pedal down seemed to also put it into Ready mode, but I never actually tried to operate it from there. I wasn't sure whether that was a different mode or what. Thanks.

That almost sounds like a defect, if you are saying that the word READY appeared on the screen even though you didn't press the brake pedal when you pressed the power switch. In my Gen 2 if I press the power switch twice without the brake pedal, the dash lights up and has the appearance that it is ready to go, but if the READY light is not on you can't shift out of Park.

If you hit the power button twice without the brake depressed, it's in a different mode than any of the three shown in the manual, just as you describe for your gen 2 - like ready, but not. More like an old car in ignition on mode but before you start it. You get the check engine light and so forth.

Yeah, I just now tried it, and yes, it's definitely not Ready Mode.

On my Gen-2, I don't think there's any "Ready" indicator. However, I see that, in this mode, whatever it is, the hybrid battery shows however many bars it has (as opposed to Accessory Mode, where it shows up blank white), and the check-engine ABS, VSC, and a few other indicators stay on. It also does not whir the water pump or warm up the engine.
