Will try here too.... Prius can't do a u turn safely

    Then I am not sure then, both the dealer and any parts warehouse worth their salt require knowledge of the wheel size as there are two different racks assemblies available. Not certain about the longer part and how one would measure that. 315 is when I experienced it, tho my wife did call me crying because the NEW car I bought her was falling apart, think that was at in the 150 or 200 range.
    I purchased I Toyota because I thought they were reliable, not so sure anymore.
    Its all a shame really, if not for this one problem and the hell it's put me though, it is a good car in concept and theory.
    Coming from a complete gear head who would much rather be talking high horsepower V-8 things, I'm on a Prius chat with the hopes of seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
    The saving grace hear at least are the people, not so much the car.
    While I have experienced a lot of B.S., I've also experienced a lot of good people who work for Toyota.
    I just wish the would fix my car already.

    Additionally Bobby, always check anything you read out for your self. Just because it's written does not make it true.
    Tho not my experience, it seems Toyota may have made changes that could mean wheel size does not effect the steering rack?
    Well within the 15" to 17" sizes at least.

    I don't think that's a fair answer.
    It's like the old joke, when the guy goes to his doctor and say's "Doctor it hurts when I do this".
    And his Doctor answers "Then don't do that".

    If the full lock U-Turn problem the OP is experiencing is NOT something happening with all Prius of same model and year? Then it's a problem that the OP deserves to have resolved. Even if it is a condition some of us may think we could live with.

    Pursuing a resolution is worth it. Because you also don't know if this is simply a symptom of something else that might get worse.
    I'd know I'd want a resolution and an answer.

    At some point, out of pure curiosity for their own good, you'd think Toyota would want to know.

    Best of luck to the OP in getting resolution to this problem.

    It's too bad, because it sounds like a very specific problem. Not too many people chiming in with similar or duplicate symptoms. But that doesn't mean you don't have a problem and don't deserve resolution. I hope they figure it out.

    doesn't toyota have a tech that floats around dealerships when they have an issue they can't handle?

    Thank You The Electric Me, The car will do a full lock U turn when it’s recovering from being lifted (on a lift) but the problem returns once the car has settled to its factory ride height.



    Too add more to the mystery, I was informed at a later date that my back bumper had been repainted.

    When the selling dealer was questioned on how this could have happened, they denied everything.

    They do have a body shop on site BTW.



    Now I really start to wonder, the mysterious problem with my car and now this.



    The selling dealer states that all safety concern vehicles will be lifted and inspected prior to any test driving and that is non-negotiable.

    It’s almost like they know the act of unloading the suspension will make it impossible to find the issue?



    Last discussion with the selling dealer was, they wanted to know how much paint was on the bumper cap, with a snarky tone.

    I guess they thought that there is not a gauge that can read coating thickness’s on a non-ferrous substrate (paint on a plastic bumper) and or they though at 2K no customer would buy one.

    I did and proved that my back bumper has 11.5 mills of paint, where a single coat should be between 3 to 5 mils.



    Overall this whole ordeal is beyond frustrating.



    All I’ve ever wanted was a good honest car , or just be straight and fix it.

    Not so certain Toyota is the brand for that.

    With the Prime coming and having a Carbon Fiber Composite rear hatch, not to mention the Lexus LFA, Toyota dealers as with Lexus should have one of these gauges available.

    how many hours does it have to be back on the ground before it acts up again?

    never checked the hours, aprox 100 to 200 miles driven.

    no idea really, they as all that can experience the problem assume for one magical reason or another that their inspection fixed it as it can not be duplicated once off the lift.
    Well not till it returns after the car has settled.

    It sounds like this car may have been in an accident. No one noticed the U-turn issue probably because prior to selling it, they never did a tight turn. Or, even worse, they did produce the issue but didn't care. I would not blame Toyota on this. Many of us in here currently own or have owned other manufacturers cars. For me, Toyota consistantly runs longer with fewer issues. Just has been my experience. Having said that, the experience I have gone through at a dealership is questionable at best. No matter who it is (Toyota, Ford, etc).

    my brother bought a bmw many moons ago that had a lot of strange suspension problems. bmw refused to help, but a local mech said the dropped it somewhere and tried to hide the repairs. not fun with a $60,000. car.
