Is there a forumla to know the cost for each Empty-Full EV charge?

    Basically, there always seems to be at least a low level of usage per hour based on the hourly usage reported by PG&E. This seems to be ~0.25-0.35 kWh for me. Most appliances draw some low level continuously...

    gotcha. that seems awfully high though. that's 250-350 watts per hour correct?

    It isn't nearly that much. I'm measuring 3W right now.

    Is that the amount of charge from the wall to fill the battery. Is it different if the HV part is empty or full?

    think of it like your 2010 battery. once you run out of wall charge in the prime, the hv portion can be any where from 2 bars to full, when you recharge.

    My very rough estimate is

    (cost in dollars per kwh * 6 ) * (60 / 30) ~ cost per equivalent gallon in prius equivalents

    or cost in dollars per kwh * 12 - thats easy.

    For me at $0.14 cents a kwh, I get $1.68 which is lower than gas at the pump
    To do it in your head, double 14, get 28, and 10X 1.40, get 1.68

    The 6 is a low estimate of capacity, the fractional difference
    is small compared to cost variations in both gas and electricity.

    Carefully driven the car can get 60 miles per gallon.
    Carefully driven your ev range can easily get 30 miles.

    So your battery is roughly half a gallon of gas in prius equivalence.

    Round to 15, 2x 15 is 30, + 10x 15 is 1,50, making 1.80

    That's much better than 2.45 for gas after our .23 increase in gas tax in November.

    one issue i had with this calculation in the pip was winter vs summer.

    You know, your probably right.

    I park in a garage, and I put a little electric space heater on a timer in the cabin, to have the car interior warm when I leave in the morning.

    In my 33 mile trip to work, I don't use the car heater at all. A little steering wheel heat on now and then. I'm not gonna calculate cost on any of that. The way home, I drive cold for 11 miles, and the heater goes on when I hit the highway, and slip into hv mode.

    i was thinking more along the lines or reduced battery capacity.most ev's lose about 25% in the cold, is prime immune to that?

    I don't have any real hard measurements. In the morning my estimated ev range is about 35 miles, and that what I get.
    My gut feel on that, is the answer is no, no reduction in capacity. But... I park in a garage.

    i park in an unheated attached garage. i get about 16 actual miles in summer, and about 12 in winter. i think the prime has a battery heater?

    I don't know if this is correct forum but I wasn't able to find one that would address my question> I have had my Prius Prime since December and in the beginning after a full charge my display was reading somewhere in the low 20 miles available. I thought it was supposed to be 25 miles not that you would actually get 25 because of different conditions like heater, defroster, colder temps, uphills etc.
    Anyways now after a charge I am only seeing the display at 19.3 miles. Charging was done at 55 degrees and the earlier charges were done in the 30's and 40's.
    Has anyone else seen this behavior or do I need to take my car in to check the charging system?
    I have attached a picture of a full charge displayed before any driving at all as of today.
