On all the various YouTube reviews, I've seen people characterizing the GUI OS on the 11.6in screen as anywhere between "Toyota needs to incorporate this into their other models" to "horrible."

I've seen a similar range of comments here. Perhaps it's a polarizing as its body styling!

From what I can see of it (our P.Prime hasn't arrived yet), I wouldn't want it as the basis for a smartphone OS, but it works fine, and is useful.

If anybody would like to comment here in this regard, feel free (or just move on to the next conversation :)).

I should clarify that I'm not talking about bugs, but how usable and valuable it is when it's operating as intended...

It's come to this, that cars have an Operating System, lol.

I suspect all this shall pass, that external navigation components, phones etc, will supplant auto manufacturers' efforts to make their dashes indispensable for our infotainment needs.

It works fine, it's useful, it's easy to use (except entering a destination which is a totally messed up disaster as it's always been).

There are some bugs in the multi-display and HUD, but I haven't found one yet in the touch screen.

Yeah our last stove had an lcd display, lotsa buttons (as they all do). Were forced to recycle it, buy another: the display failed, and to replace it would rival the cost of a new stove. Our new-and-improved stove has sheet metal about 50% thinner it seems, one outlet plug instead of two, a much smaller bottom door. Progress... Something is wrong with this picture. (n)

I'm not a fan. I think they should give up on the entune app. It sort of seems like they have given up on it already. But we didn't buy it for the OS and overall it works okay. The car is still a huge win despite the shortcomings of the OS. I have crashed the OS several times, particularly when trying to browse through the music on my phone when connected via bluetooth.

To be clear, when I said it works just fine, I haven't even downloaded Entune much less tried to connect it to my car. I'm using Bluetooth (to a Galaxy S5) for phone, music, and messages, and the other built-in features such as mapping, settings, energy monitor, and the HD radio.

I've seen comments about iPhones, especially older ones, not working well with Entune. I have an iPhone 5. Is that so old that it will be problematic?
I really want to pre-warm my vehicle come winter, and I'm willing to spring for a new iPhone if that's what it takes!

Oh go on and get a real phone, an Android, say Galaxy S7 or S8. They even have inductive (QI) charging which Apple (sorry for the dirty word!) doesn't seem to have yet. Now you need a driver in your Prime so you can safely play with all the technology!

With all the stuff I'll have to learn about the Prime I don't want to have to adapt to a new phone as well!

I like it. The 11 inch screen is a joy. It is simple to navigate, and the options are easy for me to adjust. I haven't done much with the Entune apps, except those for the car it self, which seem to work fine.
I am not excited about the voice recognition stuff. And I would like it to be able to connect to two cell phones at once. That might be a limitation with Bluetooth, but both my wife and I should be able to receive an incoming call through the system.

Seems like I've seen concerns expressed regarding recent iPhones. Off the top of my head at least, I don't immediately recall any reports regarding older iPhones.

I'm trying to resist becoming the "class luddite", but that strikes me funny: here we are "navigating" a screen, when maybe we should be looking where we're going. It's the trend, it's got momentum, memories are short. Ah well.

Same here. Yeah, you can "register" to phones, but the car will only interact with one at a time, and to switch which phone that is, it's down tools, navigate through the menus, and so on. And then the first phone is ignored, of course. I've heard from my son-in-law that it's doable, Fords for example, will juggle two phones, receive incoming calls from either.

Just pull up the audio menu, hit bluetooth, hit connect, then select the phone you want. You can select for music and for phone. Not sure if you can select one of each but it's pretty easy to bounce back and forth between different phones.

Me and my wife are both in the car, both armed with phones. One or the other phone may ring. Only one will be answered by the car's bluetooth, AFAIK. That's my issue.

Yeah but really only the driver needs the handsfree option. The passenger can hold the phone just fine.

In fact, the passenger might prefer to keep the conversation private. If not, hit speaker, I'd say...

In our case, who's driving varies, as does who's using the phone. Unless I'm missing something: with Toyota's Bluetooth you need to specify one phone or the other; it can't be both. If it's me, all's fine while when I'm driving, which I usually am when we're both in the car. But today for example, my wife will be out and about. Short of diving into menus, changing the default phone, she doesn't have blutooth phone. And if we do that, go into the menus and change the defaults, and then tomorrow say I'm driving: screwed again.

Is this still the case with fourth gen? Again, I think it's doable, Ford for one manages this?
