this is too complicated, and sounds too political to understand. good luck to them.

It sounds like the 'honorable competition' are now free to use the money they had been spending on plug-in and fuel-cell infrastructure on the infrastructure they advocate VW implement. Actually, I would tell them,

"We appreciate your interest in improving California EV and fuel-cell infrastructure. On your two dollars-to-one VW dollar, cost-sharing basis, what is your organization budget and plan?"

This would separate the 'free riders' from those committed to what they claim.

I agree with building more in ares which don't have chargers yet.
Those crying about VW taking advantage of placement for themselves, or want hydrogen, aren't forbidden from spenting their own funds.

I think vw is right, they want to build where the need is highest. Now of course if they had a bolt or a tesla model 3 in the loop then maybe they should build on routes, but tesla is supplying their own infrastructure, and gm could just partner with them and all done.

The cry baby fuel cell group of toyota, honda, and hyundai have probably already lost. Why should vw spend good money after bad. Those 3 companies if they truly believe can build subsidized stations, but they don't even want to really build even with the subsidies because of course in the next decade those stations will probably sell very little hydrogen, and its a terrible investment either for the private sector or the public sector.

I would never buy a vw because of their history. It was the nazi car company then the hippy car company, and really there are better cars from other makers for me. Still its a long time since nazi money and slave labor started the company. Porsche who designed the bug, did not want his name on that company. If they are going to turn the corner, I think electric infrastructure where the demand is highest could both be good for alternative vehicles and business.

Bayer aspirin was in the same boat as VW ... related to an ugly past. Then again ... US native Americans were destroyed in the 1700's via small pox infested blankets. It's all about the glass houses, and how long the elephant's memory is. Edison would destroy Tesla if he could have ... Bill gates would have destroyed Apple ... and our checkered past goes on infinitum. oh well i think many are at least over the wasteful destruction of Gen 1 RAV4-EV's and EV1's & the like.
