First easy question. After it sits what is the voltage of the 12 volt battery? A bad 12 volt battery can cause strange issues.
Otherwise you need a dealer to read the Prius specific trouble codes. Post them here so we can help further.

You need to get the codes read. Sounds like a possible hybrid battery failure

    SM-N900P ?

I think I need to just start sending forum members Bluetooth OBDII readers when they sign up.

That way they can read their own codes and we can help them more efficiently.

Brandon, you have a serious problem. I would recommend driving it only to get the code read. You could damage it further.

Once you get the code the you can easily Google it to get a preview of what's wrong. But also post it here so we can help you out too.

Good idea, and would only cost $2 each. You (or Danny) could write it off as a business expense, and think of all the new users, page views and revenue this would generate :coffee:

Verify first that you have a good 12V battery, (about 12.6V or thereabouts with the car off and having set for a few hours) even though it sounds like you really do have a serious traction battery issue or something in the inverter. As the others said, there is absolutely no way to tell what's wrong till you read the codes with a code reader that reads all the codes a Prius can make. Without those codes, you're left with making hugely expensive stabs in the dark.

I sometimes toy with the ida of a cheap android tablet dedicated just to OBDII use. Hmmm... More stuff for my wish list.

For Apple users 3 things are needed
    - Apple device
    - Elm 327 OBDII device compatible with Apple
    - Enginelink app

For Android users 3 things are needed
    - Android device
    - Elm 327 OBDII device compatible with Android
    - Torque app (pay for the pro-version if you want to monitor hybrid specific stuff. And believe me, you do.)

Thanks, Eric! Is this the device you refer to for Apple? Looks right, but hard to confirm since it doesn't mention hybrid codes at all.

I went to the engine link developer site and it seems to match their recommendation.

    {Edit to add: I did more reading. I'm about 99.9% sure that's the right reader now.}

In this case, the device is simply a piece of hardware. Any number of them will work.
Kind of like asking which USB cord someone should purchase.

It's the software (Torque for Android, Enginelink for Apple) that does the work of displaying the data.

For the low cost, it is worth trying one that others have used in the past.
Torque app has info on their website about which ones have worked.
For the low cost, I don't work too much about it. Every one I've ever tried have worked.

I really think I will start selling these for folks so they don't have to hunt around so much. I promote them enough, that is for sure.
May as well sell some that I know work.

I was unaware of Enginelink. It says it can reset the codes too, if needed.

    Looks like a GREAT app!

App is installed. Reader is due tomorrow. More fun to come!

It works and I've installed the custom PIDs for PiP. One "Basic" and one "PiP Config." But I don't see how to change any of the car's settings. Just monitor status or clear codes. More sleuthing coming up.
