What is Autozones price? It's hard to tell if someone else is cheaper otherwise. Some Walmarts have the S46B24R AGM for $161 while O'Reillys has a compatible version for $179.

try other auto parts stores for lower priced replacement batteries. don't fixate on optima.

Autozone buy online for $169 and pick up locally also comes with a $50 gift card if you buy $100 worth of there crap.

I would only buy a battery locally becasue its a right royal pain shipping back a bad battery and waiting for the credit and meanwhile you have to buy another battery locally anyway.

Pepboys - They have Yellow Top Optima for your Prius. Need to order online to get 25% off. Then go to store to pay and pick-up.

I believe that if you purchase it there, they will install it for you for free.

Installing a Prius battery is a major pain. If there's a place that will do it for free, that's easily worth $20-$30, in my opinion.

OP was looking for an Optima. Pep Boys is by far the cheapest if you buy locally here in Metro Atlanta.

I haven't heard anything bad about the Bosch.

You've got 3 basic options for AGM battery replacement:

    1) Drop-in battery replacement with JIS Terminals - there's a big thread on here about all of the various options.
    2) US domestic terminal batteries (SAE) which require modification/replacement of the battery cables and possibly the mount. (There's a different thread about this - search for "rural king")
    3) Mobility (electric wheelchair) batteries which may or may not require different cable terminals and mounts. (And yet a third thread...)

Because the Gen 3 battery is in the passenger compartment, for the sake of safety you absolutely must use a vented AGM battery.

I was just in a local store -- very local -- only the Pacific Northwest -- and they had an Exide AGM that fit the Prius for $86.

I almost bought one, even though I do not need one. How stupid is that?

And, Bisco, I do not think you will hear back on this one. I think the OP Stepperez is one of the post when I need something people...

Not to say I don't do that.....
