Any one else getting more than 30 per charge?

    Nope, if it would have come out at the current price in 2012 era I might have bought a used one instead of my brand new but heavily discounted volt.

    I've always viewed the Prius favorably, but the price was always too high and the local dealers I don't care for , like I said timing was always off.

    I own a gen i volt so the Primes 4 seats better fe and more room would work fine in place of my secondary car and it would work better than the volt for the once a year 3000+ mile trip I make.

    One and the same, mine has 208,000 miles

    Yup, I looked at the attachment closer, looks like 31.5 miles using gas. But what I'm talking about is going on a long distance trip (you get to charge your battery once for the start of the trip) And drive 640 miles on one tank of gas, I seriously doubt a volt can get this range on one tank of gas.

    I more or less have an 8 gallon tank

    If I keep my speed down and "manage" EV use it's a easy 460 mile
    Range give or take, if I need to bat out of $&@$
    Then my range drops into mid 300's (depending heavily on outside temperature)

    My passenger(s) typically won't let me go over 250miles in a stretch if that so it doesn't much matter.

    what does matter is the overall cost of gas.:eek: edit: especially if you're making a cross country trek ( as I will be starting May 30th) I will be going on US 2 from the Mackinaw Bridge to Everett Washington

    Why? My volt overall gets 200mpg, meaning bi monthly fill ups despite my high miles traveled.
    Electric cost is most of my driving cost , gas use is rare except on long trips where I Prii would help (though I did many times use the Insight which is better still) my trouble was I usually would have 3 people in the car on a trip.

    As for the extremes...
    Do you normally drive 85-95mph in zero F weather?
    I try not to but out west it's happened so to be truthful I have to include the extreme end of the range in my metric,
    also my volt can gain 20mpg when running straight 87 gas going from -15F to 80F.

    I use 87 octane and normally get 45-55mpg without EV use,
    there is now a tune that adds +15% which I might eventually use to morph my metrics higher.

    Overall my use of energy is quite low per mile even compared to a Prime, if I were limited to "gas only " operation given my driving habits I still would meet or beat most Gen II Prii.
    But add electric and it's extreme ease of hypermiling I can exceed most anyone cost per mile ,
    It's the long trips that waste gas and usually it's because my vacation gets cut short and the bad planning after that causing me to drive less leasurely

    Ah well, make the best of what you've got.

    yes, I've scheduled 6 motels approximately 5 to 8 hours per day apart. Haven't booked any on the way back yet. I will be taking a companion from Indianapolis with me. She will be meeting me on the 29th staying overnight at a local motel then we're taking off early the next day. I will be taking a more southern route back (back to Indianapolis) And it's Washington State.

    No, I don't drive 85-95 MPH I drive the speed limit with CC on. I have taken one long distance trip and got 58.7 MPG. I will post what I get during my trip out west.55 MPG? on your Volt? not bad:D:cool:

    That is totally COOOOOLL! I had a 2005 blue Honda Insight coupe which was my first hybrid. Sold it for $4000 with 230,000 miles. It was a remarkable little concept whose execution by Honda left a lot to be desired. This is the size/configuration with a Prime drivetrain that I would love to own!! The car ate catalytic converters. The clutch was weak (I still want a stick!), and the A/C stuggled on a hot day, but it was so cool with fairings, torpedo shape, extensive use of aluminum. The little puppy weighed 1800 lbs; I can imagine it as a plug-in, with 8.8 KWH battery setup. PERFECT! My mileage overall deteriorated to 58 MPG,
    although til about 180,000, it averaged 65 MPG. I understand that the car is heading for cult status!

    Since virtually ALL of my day-to-day driving will be EV once we get our Prime (Aug? Sep?? OCT???), it's actually the "Real World MPG" results for Primes on lengthy road trips / in HV mode that I'm most interested in. During the warmer months (March to October around here) our EPA-Rated 45 highway / 48 city '08 typically gets 48-52 on the road, and 50-55 around town. I'd simply LOVE to be able to beat the 54 MPG (combined) the Prime is rated at... many people here-and-there say they're getting in the high 50s or even low 60s! I'm very interested to know how your Prime does over the course of 900-ish miles... looking forward to your update!

    So... when an image such as this is displayed, does that mean the PRIME "thinks / believes" you have up to 40 miles EV-range on this charge. AND... if yes, is the 40 miles based on the PRIME's "memory / calculations" of your recent results when driving in EV mode?

    That is correct. Its a calculation of your recent average miles/kWh. There is a tread on here somewhere that breaks down the math. I'm currently right around 35 miles indicated.

    As far as long distance mileage I can tell you my experience. We purchased the car in NY and had to return here to MO with it. Over that 1200 mile road trip, loaded down with luggage, at or above the speed limit, heading west into the wind, just under 60 mpg. That represents No electric usage because the dealer was too stupid to figure out how to charge the car. Even after asking them twice to charge it up. I was extremely happy with that result. Now that I am back home and have been here for a month by lifetime average is up to almost 80. We take lots of 300 mile trips. I usually get about 70 mpg or so on those including the initial charge from when I leave home. And in case you were wondering, we have put 5000 miles on the car and we haven't even had it a month, so in general I do some long trips In it.

    Hi Joshua, congrats on your new Prime Toy!! I was wondering if during your trips you stopped at hotels/motels, and if you tried charging there. My wife and I would be pretty lucky about 2/3 of the time to find hotels willing to provide a special spot to charge our 2012 Prius Plug-in. They were almost always only 110V utility outlets, usually in parking lots run by the hotels. It did make a difference in MPG, but when unavailable, made me appreciate even more the flexibility of a plug-in hybrid in our current world.

    That image is taken from Toyota's Entune app with the Advanced trim models. It rounds up to the nearest mile of what the car displays. If the car displays 39.5 to 40.4 EV miles of range, the app will display 40 EV miles of range. The range is an estimate based on your typical driving efficiency on the car in the past with no climate control on. If you drive with the climate control on in ECO mode, it will take away about 2-3 EV miles off of your full charge estimate.

    Don't worry, my driveway is about twice as long and about as steep in a couple places. I guess they have upped the backing torque because I exclusively back out of the deathtrap of my driveway so you should be able to back up as well.

    I don't back down my driveway for that reason anymore. I back down to have easier access to the charge port because I charge outside.
