They had one for the 7" screen. Now they've designed one for the 11.6" screen. Here's the installation video.

Oh my heart! I admit it, I'm such a chicken to try that! But it looks so cool!

Oh that's a lot easier than I thought it would be. Heck back when I had a celica I had to remove the entire front bumper just to change the headlights. Lol

$150 so that you can enter an address into your nav system while the car is moving when you can use the built-in voice recognition system for free? That's seems like a lot of money for something that wouldn't be used too often. What am I missing? It's not like we can play DVDs with the Prime.

Not only that, it's illegal! It's illegal to have a video playing that can be viewed from the drivers seat. But I guess that's just a sick bird.
When he started with "what's up" I immediately knew that there would be nonsense!

What I want is someone to set up Google Maps on the screen, so we can have a -real- GPS system!
One that has free and up to date updates, is intuitive to use, and not bogged down by greed.

He may have been playing a video but he wasn't driving it. Some person on this forum said they sit in their car during their break and watch the game on the bigger screen. Also you can display your phone's screen on the dash so if you have Google maps/Waze/MapQuest on your phone, you can cast it up on that screen instead of using that craptastic built in gps. It has a lot of uses if you're creative. :)

    I'm sorry, I wasn't clear enough.

First, probably Federal Law, it's illegal to -install- any video display device in a vehicle such that it -may- be viewed by the operator of said vehicle while the vehicle is operating (a lockout makes it ok). Which is why you don't see such installations in new cars/trucks. So he's telling us to break the law there, unless the unit actually has some kind of lockout - didn't notice one in the posted vid.

Second, the operation part. It's illegal to do anything in a vehicle that distracts from the operation of said vehicle. This would be local jurisdiction (State, Provincial, etc). Watching a video is one such activity. In fact, in Alberta, this law is so strict it -includes- when parked in a valid parking spot on a roadway with the vehicle "on" (in our case, not just in "ready"). In Alberta the law even tells you how many "button presses" you may do on a GPS unit (it's not many - for example you can't enter an address). So far this law has been ineffective! The deaths continue.

This is all thanks to cell-phone idiots texting while driving or even just blabbing on the phone. They have made "distracted driving" more dangerous than drunk driving with more deaths!

In truth, while most distracted driving laws exempt "hands free", such as the Prius Bluetooth connection to your phone, even this has been proven to be just as dangerous. But now I'm entering religious indignation territory. i.e. shut up and drive safely! ;)

The Prius Prime will play USB Video. Of course the default setting is when the vehicle is in Park with the parking brake on. It goes to audio-only if any of the parameters are not met.

Realistically, this is so that the passenger can enter in an address. I don't know if this is any different but previous bypass modules send a false signal to the car's ecu that tells the car it's at a rest. This means you can't use navigation while the bypass is on because your location won't be updated on the map. It'll relocate you once you turn the bypass off. It's meant to be temporary.

I'm more curious about their screen mirroring products for phones. It would be interesting to see what Waze looked like in place of the navigation display in proper orientation on the 11.6 display.

Can you post their link for the 7" screen?

Am just curious. I probably won't get it. First of all, wouldn't it void the warranty? I'm sure Toyota could claim it to get out of warranty repairs if it wanted to. And I usually just input the destination before I go if I have to use Navi. But interesting to know such a product hack exists.

It'll play USB video? Like MP4 videos put on a USB stick? Really? Have to test it out to see if it works. At the very least, it's something to watch if you have to wait around in a parking lot for a while or something...

Note it's only for the 11.6" HD MFD on Premium and Advanced models.

Plus models with the 7" MFDcan play iPod Video sound only (which, really, isn't anything special since I can do the same now - play Youtube or Netflix and stream the audio over BT while I watch it on my iPhone on my 2010 Prius while I'm waiting)

Ah, that explains it, as I tried it last night and it didn't work on the Plus. Well, it's a nice feature I guess, but considering the 11.6 is vertically tall instead of horizontally wide, you'd either have to tilt your head permanently to watch, or the picture size would be pretty small, not too much different than on a phone. Good to know anyway.

It'll play on the bottom half, horizontally.

SEE the preview shot at the top or just watch the YouTube video at the top. It'll show you the music video that's playing from 0:19 to 0:34

If you come out with a screen mirroring unit, I'd go for that. I thought this would mirror your phone like the other models would. /Dissapointment
