Which Prius trim level should I get? 2017

    I was leaning towards the Two because of the price. I know I dont want the Prius Two Eco because there is no spare tire. What do you guys think? What are the major differences between the trim levels that you think is worth it? Any advice is welcome! This will be my first Prius and first hybrid. Big decision!

    I am still pretty new here, but I did read somewhere on here that the Prius Two was going to be getting a mid year update that adds the Blind Spot Monitor. I can't find the thread where I read that, so wait for someone more familiar on this site to confirm that.

    welcome!
    i only buy two's. i don't need or care for any of the options. it's eye candy at first, but soon gets tiresome. there are a few things i would like to buy a la carte, but i'm not paying for toyota's packaging system.

    I enjoy my Two. As mentioned previously, the 2017.5 Two has a couple of added safety features and an optional appearance package.
    I sometimes wish the seats were more comfortable for long trips, but that opinion seems to vary among users here.

    You can usually order accessory items cheaper online. I added the Toyota all-weather vinyl mats for less than purchasing them from my dealer.

    A Prius Two has everything you need in a modern car. And like the others, if you care about BSM/RCTA, then look for a 2017.5. You can tell if it has BSM because there are small indicators on the mirror lens. If you're planning to use the hatch often, I would suggest even a Three because it has 3-dr SKS which includes a sensor in the hatch. If you're ok using the driver's door (or just pressing the unlock button on the key fob), then you can save some coin and get the Two.

    Otherwise, everything else really is just extra candy if you wish to pamper yourself. The higher models get nicer trim (like piano black accents around the vents and soft-touch upper door trim), 3-dr SKS, nav, SofTex-wrapped steering wheel (cooler to the touch than the standard urethane wheel or leather-wrapped wheel).

    A lot of it will come down to how you want to balance your finances and whether you care about the extra features. It's nice that the Prius now doesn't really force you to go up higher trims to get any valuable safety features (like BSM or PCS).

    But as I said in the other thread, you can get a very nice Four for around the same price you would've spent for the RAV4 Hybrid XLE and that can include a HUD and power moonroof (if you spring for the AT package) but I guess you want a spare tire so that'll limit you to a Two, Three and Three Touring.


    Just note, the heat can take a toll on the battery so just be aware (use a sunshade and/or tint your windows, ensure the vents are clear of dog hair). We don't know what the Li-Ion battery is like in the heat as it's new for this model. The NiMH is fairly reliable but again just be aware that heat takes a toll compared to a Prius that's owned in a cooler climate.

    Thank you! I liked your comment on the cooler climate part as I live in a pretty hot area. Looks like I'm going to need to clear up my garage a bit haha

    The Two has basic Bluetooth smart phone connections for calls and reading text messages back to you.
    It only has a basic radio and not the entertainment functions of the higher trims.

    I have mine set to unlock all passenger doors from the drivers door. You need to unlock the other doors before you can open the cargo door though.

    Yep, keep the batteries cool if you can (garage vs driveway)! I couldn't, and combined w/ the solar roof that vents through the battery area, I started seeing poor fuel economy and lower battery assist after my 3rd summer when temps got extreme. This was a 3rd-gen 2010, but the 2004 we recently traded in also had the same problem on really hot days.

    I purchased a 2007.5 Prius 2 with Blind spot monitoring package. I am happy with everything that I have and don't miss a so blessed thing that would have been on the 3. I really don't care about bells and whistles. And actually Prius 2 has many things that other cars of similar trim do not have.

    It really depends on what you really want. If you care for all bells and whistles (navigation, bigger wheels, upgraded audio etc), you can think of higher trims. Otherwise Prius 2 will have everything that is needed and more. You'll be surprised.

    I bought a new 2 in 2011, if I had bought the 4 I'd probably still have it. Also I think the Prius 2 has the older battery pack not the Lithium, might be worth the upgrade to a 3 just for the Battery.
