Not here. Lexus used to charge me to topping off screenwash (at premium prices too) - I shall be taking the car with screenwash fully topped up before the service.

They'll still charge - at least in my experience, no matter how full it is when I give it to them.

Every German car I've owned (Mercedes, BMW) specifies brake fluid flush every two years, so maybe it's a European thing. Brake fluid absorbs humidity and maybe they're afraid it might corrode brake system components (especially ABS systems).

maybe it's a refection of german quality, but you'd think toyota would use the same parts worldwide. grumpy cabby use to claim the u/k prius was inferiorly made.(n)

Toyota Canada recommends brake fluid change every 3 years or 48K km's. I suspect they change their policy based on region, for what reason I don't know. FWIW, Honda Canada has always said, as many decades back as I can recall, to change brake fluid tri-yearly, regardless of mileage.

General thought for the Brits: regarding dealerships topping up wiper fluid and charging you: maybe you can just tell them you don't want any of their "service packs", just rotate the tires and change the oil/filter, and how much will that be, please and thank you.

And follow the US schedule. What boggles my mind: that it seems impossible to find the Brit schedule. Is there a warranty/maintenance booklet in the glove box, and does it have a schedule??

Full disclosure: I've never darkened the doorstep of a dealership for regular maintenance, only warranty and recalls. The regular stuff I DIY.

same here, if it wasn't for the two free years, i wouldn't let those monkeys touch my car. and even then, it is probably costing me in some unknown way, vs my local guy.
the problem in the u/k is warranty based on dealer service. raspy said he didn't get a manual, maybe there's more to it than that.

Hearing that gives me a sinking feeling.

Funny, my Dad was like that with our VW, I can't recall him ever doing much, beyond checking the gas level, with a stick, lol. Oil changes and the like, he brought it in to the dealership.

Guess the apple fell off the tree on a hill, and started rolling.

they propose it as a way to know the car has been maintained properly, allowing them to increase warranty limits. but we know better, don't we? it goes right to the heart of elon musk's argument and dealer model.

I vaguely recall some british service horror story video: the customer left his dash cam running, to see what they were actually up to.

Here, after dealers "rip-offs" became more likely most manufacturers have moved to a "Capped Price Servicing" arrangement where you can compare the guaranteed service price for the first 3, 4 or 5 years or in the case of Hyundai prices are listed for 10 years, and GM and FORD for the life of the car.

TOYOTA PRIUS' has a free "inspection service at 1,000km. Services are every 6mth/10,000km whichever comes first, charged at $140 each for the first 6 if they're done on time/distance as scheduled (otherwise double or triple that charge). Oil/filter each time. 2yr service includes brake fluid change and air filter, and cabin filter at 18/36 mths.

My previous FORDs, KIA, MAZDA and VOLVOs all specified 2 yearly brake fluid change.

£185 sounds about right, I've just had mine done end of March, £162 which included a 10% dealer loyalty reward, so normal price equates to around £180. No tyre rotation, they don't take the wheels off at an intermediate service, top up wiper fluid is listed as £1.50. They change the oil, oil filter, drain plug gasket and do a (free ?) visual health check on tyres etc. There's a £5.00 environmental charge, I guess that's for disposal of oil ?
What annoys me though is that you can get the same service on a 5 year old, or older (out of warranty), car For £100.
