I should have it in about a week. It's a 2013 with only 34,000 miles with extended warranty.

The question I have, is if someone in a Prius is sitting somewhere, like a parking lot in summer, is it possible to run the a/c with the engine off and the engine starts when the battery needs it? (similar question about heat).

My first hybrid and it's going to be weird knowing that in heavy standstill traffic the mpg will be higher than driving lol.

I also drive Uber/Lyft on weekends and some weekday evenings after my regular job. But with only 34k, it's going to be like a new one. It's the closest I've ever had to a new one. I've read they are highly dependable as well. Watching many awesome videos over the weekend on how to do certain things.

Nice ride. A v Five with ATP?

Yes, using the A/C and Heat while parked will cause the ICE to cycle to maintain traction battery charge state.

The A/C should run perfectly with no engine running, the engine will start when the battery runs low.
The heat will get less effective as the coolant gets cold, the engine will start when the coolant temp is so low that the pollution control gear needs more heat.

    Yep.

Originally I was approved (Carmax) for a 2014 same color, 86,000 miles but no sunroof/moonroof (which I REALLY wanted), no auto-park or adaptive cruise . It was also in LA which meant a $949 transfer fee. Then Sunday night I did another search and found this in KY. It has everything. However I've never sat in the back of one, but most people say they have more room inside than it looks outside....like Dr. Who's Tardis.

    Tardis...Prius....interesting.

The reason I hope the a/c worked that way is when I'm in the Uber/Lyft airport queue and it gets hot or cold. I either have to leave windows down or waste gas. Now I won't. I'm a techie person (work in IT for the EPA) so this is going to be fun to drive.

Going from a 22 MPG 2008 Sable to this. I needed $2,500 of strut/trans cooler work done, so I told them $3,000 down. Now I have it.

    It will run much less.
This explains much of the (Gen 2) Prius high voltage system, about 15:05 to 17:00 is the A/C compressor explanation.

Yes the car is great at cooling you without the engine running because of the electric motor driven refrigeration compressor, electric waterpump and fans. However I find my car will not maintain a high level of charge on the HV battery when in Ready (basically run or started) mode while in Park. So when you first stop in a parking area, you have a fairly long runtime on the HV battery. But when the engine starts to charge an almost depleted battery, it runs a short time, not enough to charge the HV battery more than perhaps 25%. As a result subsequent "engine off" AC runtimes are shorter than the first time. With that said, you still end up with AC when everyone else is continuously running their cars to do the same thing. Plus their belt driven compressors are running slow because their engine is idling and you are using less gas. Heat is a little different in a Prius because it is still dependant on engine coolant temperature. In that case the engine may run more just to keep the engine heat.

Usually I am waiting on a request 30-45 minutes max. Most are 15-20 and sometimes as soon as I get in the queue.

Awesome information, been wanting one for years.

Also came across this just now where a Toyota tech is interviewed. A good, reliable;e vehicle with high mpg and low maintenance costs is definitely what I need driving Uber/Lyft. Rear seating is my only concern but most riders I asked said the ones they were in had plenty of space.

You will like the v wagon, reclining rear seats, oversized ac, smoother ride with a yaw and roll compensator built into the motor control.

It's my first one so it should be fun. I work in IT so all the techie stuff will be awesome. As long as rear passengers have decent space is my only concern, I know the front does. Cargo area is huge with seats up...10 cubic feet more than my 2008 Sable I drive for Uber now.

I have over 109k and 170k on my Prius vehicles without changing batteries (12v and HV) and without changing brakes. Michelin tires last 100k on these cars. I have burned out a few headlights and other bulbs. I did have an inverter fail on the v but Toyota subsequently issued a recall. There is a firmware update that you want to ensure you have to mitigate the potential of an inverter failure. Even if they pay for it, an inverter failure stops you dead in the water.

Is this the correct Michelin tire? I couldn't find anything other than ice x3 (or whatever those are) by a vehicle search, so they messaged and sent this.

I will get a set of plain rims for winter and change to winter tires in December. I used a set on a 2008 Acadia FWD and drove Uber in VA after a 21" snowfall and never had issues. Only 5 of us could get out and I made $968 that day after Uber fees. I probably won't see that in the Raleigh/Durham area, but it gets a mix and slick sometimes and I mainly like them for better stopping. I always go Michelin if I can.

Unfortunately, TireByer doesn't have these either. I've used them for years.

Edit: Search by vehicle gets me nothing, but search by size gets me these. Which would be best (without thinking cost) in everyone's opinion?

    I have a v Three, and so 205/60-16 Energy Saver A/S. I like them.

I will probably go with those with the 55k warranty instead of 65k. Even though I go thru tires in just over a year (when using winter tires) driving Uber/Lyft and regular driving, I know that they tend to be softer and ride better than higher warranty ones.

V rated tires should never go more than 149 MPH, H is limited to 130 MPH.

Your Prius v is not going faster than 103 MPH, so S rated tires would be fine. (so would R, but I have never seen an R rated tire, and S used to be common)

Tire Rack does not even show snow tires rated less than H for my car.

We use Dunlop M3 WinterSport in 215/50R17 on a separate set of 10-spoke v Five rims. Great tires, and on our other cars they tend to last 4-5 northeast winter driving seasons (years).

With a heavy hurricane tailwind going downhill I bet we could get 104 mph.....assuming it doesn't blow away lol

Drive behind an 18 wheeler at 80 mph and you will know what a hurricane feels like. It upsets the aerodynamics some.
