California License Plates + HOV Sticker

My dealership was awesome enough to have requested the decals beforehand and I was able to get it from them the day after I purchased the car. They even paid for the $22 DMV fee. First thing next day I took the freeway route to work in carpool only to find out that it gets backed up! I was 15 minutes late to work...

Gotta love southern CA freeways.

 

Just out of curiosity, can I ask what dealership it was? Always good to know of dealerships that go the extra mile (mine didn't).

 

It's Rancho Santa Margarita Toyota. Pretty smooth process compared to others I've dealt with before.

 

Wow, DMV is really busy. I called to find out my HOV decal status. 1st call 10:41AM 61 minutes wait, after about 15 minutes my cellphone call got disconnected.
2nd call 10:56 AM 69 minutes wait. I left my call back number during the process got disconnected again.
3rd call 11:50AM 95 minutes wait. Finally got a nice female on the phone, after checking my lincense plate and info a few more minutes wait, she came back and told me that my HOV decal just processed today. I should get it in two weeks. I confirmed with her again. It will take 2-5 days to mail out my decal and certificate. Shipping should be within a week. Cross my fingers. It paid to call.

 

@ArcPrime I've dialed that number plenty of times and I've found that the call back option is best. They've followed through each time and it sure beats staying on hold for hours!

 

It's good to know that call back works. I read some other post recommended to wait instead of waiting for call back. I didn't think I left my call back number properly, during the voice mail instructions somehow I got disconnected. I put my cellphone in speaker mode just let it sit there while I was working so really didn't waste my time. I am glad cell call has unlimited calling minutes . Ha Verizon wireless probably won't be too happy or well.

 

30 minute wait times are not unusual for the DMV.

The only problem with the call back option, at least for me, was that it mysteriously disconnected while I was answering the call. If that happens you can kiss your call back good bye

After that snafu, I went with the tried and true speakerphone while on endless hold routine instead.

 

I had the same experience on several calls. There are definitely some bozos over there screwing with the phones.
But the call back option does seem to be the best way to go. You may just have to do it a couple times to dodge the jerk who's playing the games.

Only tried it once recently, but can also vouch for the call-back. Worked fine, you can go about your day, and they'll call you back.

 

Gottem' Can't wait to try them out! Cashed my check Tuesday, received them in today's mail. What's odd is the date on them is 5/30 and issued 6/1!

Don't really liked the way they look on the car. Also was trying to put them as low as possible was worried about the Blind Spot Monitors being affected. The pics/diagrams show the black box behind the rear wheel but up a bit. I thought it was those round things but it isn't. Let's hope I got it rightl

 

I think they make the Prime really gorgeous

 

As long as they are generally in the right area and readily visible, I wouldn't worry. An officer isn't going to pull you over because your decal should be two inches over.

 

So I just got super lucky.
After reading this thread I was expecting a long wait for the HOV stickers. On 5/31 I sent in my application and check, stickers showed up today 6/14. I could not have been more surprised.
Besides the incredibly speedy turn around when I checked my account the check for $22 to the DMV has not cleared?

lucky you ... when did you buy your Prime? Could the dealer have initiated this prior to your purchase?

 

I picked up my Prime on 5/17. That makes a lot of sense. I did call the dealer a couple of times asking for the LP# so I could fill out the HOV application and they said they did not know the plate number and I would have to wait for the plates in the mail. This makes sense as the check has not cleared and on the registration cards that comes with the sticker it states 6/7 $22 fee paid.

 

My checked finally cleared today. It was deposited 06/07. Now I am waiting my mailman to deliver my decal.

 

Got my stickers yesterday, six and one half weeks after I bought the car. Glad to have them! First time I've had carpool stickers since the yellow ones expired on my 2004 Prius. So, today was the first time I drove over the new ramp from the 405 North to the 605 North. It didn't exist the last time I had stickers.

 

Mystery solved. DMV returned my check today. Dealership did apply and pay for HOV tags.

I called them a couple of times asking for my license plate number so I could apply for HOV tags. I guess the different department don't talk because no one informed me they were taking care of it.

Anyone purchasing in CA should ask if dealer is taking care of HOV tags - nice little added bonus
