HV battery leaks are a common Gen 2 problem in the hotter climates. Electrical shorts in the transmission were a Gen 1 issue but it rarely happens on the Gen 2 transaxle. Carroll @Luscious Garage made this video that should help identify where the leak is at and in my experience it's always correct.

Basically all you have to do is clear the codes and then put the car in ACC mode. Wait a few minutes and if the codes come back then the leak is in the battery.

Do you charge more when a customer has a P0AA6 pack? vs a failed P0A80 pack?

Thanks for correcting me on that. I admit I haven't ever had to use it on a Gen 2 but I assumed that it would work the same way. Darn! I guess the only other way to verify that the leak is inside the battery is to pull the cover and check for continuity between the case and the bus bars. All of the leakers that I've dealt with were very obvious as soon as we opened them because of the big corrosion stain under the bad module.

I don't charge them any differently, a failed battery is a failed battery. It would be crappy to start changing prices on people once your about to fix their car. I don't like P0AA6 cores because even the good modules tend be at a higher risk of leaking if you put them back in service. Luckily I don't run into them very often so they normally just get recycled.

Today I had a friend that has a 2005 model as me. We swapped the hybrid batteries this morning. After all is done, he was getting the triangle error and same codes. I have been driving my vehicle all day with no problems. I then took my original battery over to my Toyota tech, which found that one of the case mounted bolt was the issue. No physical leaks and so we removed it. After testing the cell it was back up to normal. So he is going to place it in one of his donor vehicles and test drive it for a couple days. If that resolves the issue that would be cool. So we know for sure it's the hybrid battery.

use a meter to see if you are getting a voltage reading on the mounting screw hole on the positive side.neg to neg post. had one do that, replaced it, no other problem.. I forget the code but it was short in HV circuit.. even got a voltage reading off the case itself

Can you elaborate on this? I'm wondering what you mean by "back up to normal" and "resolves the issue". One of the modules in your pack has a crack in it's casing which is allowing electrolyte to flow out and make contact with the casing. Unless you can stop the leak that module is trash and will have to be replaced.

    It did? That's cool.

The case bolt? If it's the bottom bolts, it would be a leaking module that's bolted down in that spot?

But no leaks... he is going to test it as it did have voltage on the bolt. If it doesn't look good then I can grab the refurbished one for 500$ and be done with it.

Just change out that one module that's linked to the bolt
